Just a quick question, I know as a resale purchaser I cant use my points for cruises, and not a great use of. But when I see member cruises, can I book with cash? What is special about these from regular?

If you own only resale contracts purchased after the rules changed, you cannot book the Member Cruise even if paying cash.

IMO the member cruise isn't that big of deal, and it costs more than other cruises, it isn't discounted as a way to say thanks for being a member.

What's sad is that the executive over DCL is also over DVC. You would think that he could cut us a deal. :sad2:

I see the member cruise as just another way for Disney to make more money and the resale restrictions as just another way to get people to buy direct at inflated prices.

Yes my points are after the fact, but still buying more because its a better deal for me. 5 more days of waiting for ROFR.
So what is so special about the member cruises, is there less people, is it just dvc members? Why have them?

They have them to sell you more points. lol

When we went on one it was like a shark feeding frenzy. Everyone wanted to know how much you added on. We resisted and did not add on at all.

Disney gives out some small gifts, extra entertainment, maybe a speaker and/or 2 stops at Castaway Cay. They act like it's something really special and people treat it as such.

Bottom line, it's a way to make cruise money for Disney and it's an easy way to sell DVC to a group of Disney/DVC lovers. Marketing at it's finest.

To my knowledge Disney hasn't even told anyone what the extras are for the next two member cruises.

If you love cruising and you see value in member cruises then go for it but don't get caught up in the hype.

I have been on 2 DVC Members Cruises, and have 2 more booked. I like the special entertainment which usually includes singers as well as Disney Imagineers, and sometimes Disney Family Members.

Bobbi:boat:

PS. DH does not enjoy them as much as I. He has been on 1 and will be with me next year. My friends who have come with me have enjoyed the cruise as much as I do. The friend coming with me this year has never been on a cruise, but she was willing to pay the price because of feedback from me and my friends who have gone.

Thanks all, guess I will just have to buy these extras on ebay:rotfl:
I will see you all on the regular cruises.

If you think it is about gifts, do that. I have donated just about all of the gifts. It is an experience worth paying for IMO!:thumbsup2

Been on 2 Member's cruises and will not be on any more. They started going cheap on the in room gifts and cutting back on the types of food offered in the dining as well. I think DVC just looks at the guests on the cruise as a captivate audience to sell, sell, sell to. It is just too much to spend for what you get. ....smjj
