My daughter is going to see Justin Timberlake here (AGAIN!!!!):confused3 and as we are driving down from Toronto we are trying to familiarize oursleves with any reasonable hotels that might be nearby??

Thanks!

For your help..

I haven't told her yet that I am willing to drive her and her friend yet! They seem to think they can get themselves there and sleep in the car!!!!!!:scared1: before heading back the next morning!

Now, I know they are both 20...but...I think they have no concept of how far it really is as well as weather issues and on and on..and the 'car' thing?!?
YIKES...that really scared me!

They both saw JT here 2 weeks ago and of course 'MUST' see him again! I was away when they came up with this and now the tickets are here....well...what can I do?

Hope this isn't how groupies begin!?!?!

DO NOT LET THEM SLEEP IN THEIR CAR!!:scared1:

Pittsburgh is not the place for anyone to do that, let alone 20 year old girls. Heck -- nowhere is safe to do that, anymore!:worried:

But I think you are right about the groupies thing!! :rotfl:

I am sure that there are more inexpensive hotels but I don't pay attention to anything like that! My daughter goes to the University of Pittsburgh and has an apartment in Oakland! I try not to read the campus newspaper or watch the news because of the high rate of attacks/armed robberies in her neighborhood! :faint: Several have happened on her street! She is 21 and like your daughter, can't grasp why her Dad and I are ready for a nervous breakdown!:sad2:

Pittsburgh

I work across the street from the Mellon Arena. There is a Marriott and a Doubletree within 1 block.

Since I am taking them...any nice Malls or shopping areas close by?
May as well make 'use' of my time!;)

I know the names -- but I don't like to drive in the Pittsburgh traffic!:scared1: (I get lost very easily -- so I make my DD or DH drive!!)

I do know that the Waterfront Mall is really nice -- Ross Park Mall is not too far. The South Side (just over the bridge from Oakland) has some great shops, as well as the Cheesecake Factory. There's Station Square, which is nice.

Soooooo driving is hairy? Ick..I hate that.

I might have to make a friend come along!
This could end up being quite the adventure!
LOL

Thanks for the shopping help!

It is for me!:lmao: I am a country girl - I hate cities, I hate interstates, I hate traffic! I love narrow, windy country roads.

The streets in Pittsburgh, to me, aren't well marked, especially for when you have to get on I-279 or I-79.

I hate it when it gets really busy as I too have a tendancy to get myself LOST! I best allow some extra time!

Check betterbidding.com if you're brave - there are usually some good Priceline deals. The William Penn is where most celebs stay when they're in Pittsburgh (Matt Damon and Ben Affleck stayed there when they filmed Dogma, Oprah and Gayle just stayed there during their road trip across the country last season, etc) I've seen some pretty good deals on the William Penn through Expedia/Travelocity, but I've seen quite a few very low Priceline wins.

For cheaper hotels, Green Tree is just a few minutes from downtown (just on the other side of the tunnels) and usually significantly cheaper.

Greentree has two major motels on Banksville Road, which is the approach to the Fort Pitt Tunnel. Mellon Arena is on the other side of the tunnel. Much, much cheaper than any downtown hotel.

As far as sleeping in their car, first of all, street parking by Mellon is really tough. For a Justin Timberlake concert, probably impossible. Garages probably won't let you sleep there, and neither will the police.

Priceline it. A lot of Melon acts stay at the Convention Center hotel. What is it now, a Wyndham. DH says it's a Westin.

The convention center hotel is called The Westin.

As mentioned, the Marriott City Center is very close to Mellon Arena. Downtown is not that big, so check out the Omni William Penn on Grant Street, The Renaissance Hotel, THe Hilton Hotel, Courtyard by Marriot on Penn Ave and the Sheraton in Station Square.

If you don't know the area, I do not suggest staying outside the "downtown" area - Pittsburgh is confusing enough to drive in and traffic will be horrible for the concert - you don't need to be navigating in that when you could just walk or take the trolley.

Also, check out: www.stationsquare.com and www.southsidepgh.com for some places to shop in and close to downtown Pittsburgh.

Have fun!

If you do stay in a pittsburgh hotel most of them have a shuttle that will take you to station square and other close by areas so you wouldn't have to drive in town.

We always stay at the mentioned hotel right across from mellon arena, it's so much easier.

You can get to Station Square by jumping on a subway train, the station is about 2 blocks from the arena.

Oh and as for sleeping in the car. . . my aunt's friend had a car stolen outside Mellon Arena in the middle of a concert or hockey game (can't remember which) It's definitely not a place they wanna camp out for the night.
