We learned a lesson last year that after 3 busy days everyone was ready for a day off from the parks so this year we worked in an open day into our schedule.
The plans called for us to sleep in and then go to DTD for some shopping but since we had already done that we decided to explore some of the different resorts. We had dinner reservations for the GRand Floridian that night so we thought we better first find out how to get there. They don't make it easy to get to the GF. You go through the gates to pay to park and then you immediatelly have to go to the right. Not easy if you don't know and are in the far left lane. so we circle the parking lot and have a do over. We get it right this time and go through the guard gates without a hitch. The GF is a beautiful resort that I believe also has beautiful prices. We leave there and DGD wants to see Wilderness Lodge so we follow the signs and find it without a problem. It is another beautiful resort. My parents have stayed at the original lodge out west and were curious to see how this one compared. I think that they would like to stay there sometime. I would also like to schedule a lunch at Whispering Canyon sometime if the future. we walked around the grounds and down to the pier area. It was a very peaceful place. I did some pin trading with a lady there and got a nice Christopher Robins pin to go with my Pooh characters. It starts looking like rain and really you can see it coming so we head over to Animal Kingdom Lodge. This is where I would like to stay sometime. The shower had passed for now and the hot steamy sun was back out. We walked around after getting lost a few times trying to find the animals. A CM was feeding the Pelicans but the other animlas were put up so the area could be cleaned. On the other side we saw bunches of animals. Well worth the trip over. we ate lunch downstairs in their food court area then headed for home.
We wanted to rest for a while before getting the "Princess" dressed for dinner. The Commando in me wanted to leave between 3:00 and 3:30 for our 5:00 dinner reservations. We made my ETD and made it through the tricky entrance of the GF in plenty of time.
The lobby was even better than I imagined. I loved the Mary Poppins topiary outside the door. Those things amaze me. I would love to be able to create one in my yard. I would have a carousel horse, which leads me to I loved 1900 Park Fare. It was decorated with carousels and I didn't even know that when I made my reservations. we are seated pretty quickly. My family finally has realized that I did pretty good on the planning. If you do one of the dinners try and get the first seating. WE had 5:00 reservations and when we left there were people waiting everywhere. We don't do well waiting to eat. Our CM was okay rather hurried but he kept our tea glasses full and that is important to my crew. we saw the Fairy Godmother first because there wan't a line waiting to see her when she first arrived. My dH thought she looked mean and really looking back at the pictures she sort of does.
We tag teamed going to get something to eat and I kept telling them about how good the Strawberry soup was suppose to be (anyone have the recipe?). Now this is the same family that tried beverly and swore revenge and they tried it. I didn't think that they would ever take one of my food suggestions again. the soup was good but I could see it more for dessert with maybe a pound cake. Suzi and Perla made their rounds and they made a fuss over Megan. They did last year when we saw them in the park. They have become one of my favorites. Cinderella came by and she made a fuss that Megan was dressed like her. Now the one I was looking foward to was Prince Charming and I must say that I was disappointed. I don't know if he didn't know how to act with Megan or if he was just a plasic mannequin they found. We were hoping for a good picture with our "Cinderella" and the Prince but we didn't. DH paid the bill which I understand was the size of the GNP of some small countries and met the rest of us in the lobby. We had brought clothes for our princess to change into so we could go exploring some more. so there we werer in the beautiful lobby of the GF and we changed Megan's clotes from her Princess costume complete with gloves , tiara, tights and shoes to t shirt and shorts. the funny thing is no one noticed.
It had turned out to be a nice evening so we went over to the boardwalk to walk around since we had never been there either.
Not too crowded mainly families. It was nice seeing the ball from Epcot all lite up at night. All in all a much better day. but the best is still to come. Tomorrow its off to the Magic Kingdom and lunch with Pooh.
