With two small kids prone to lung and sinus issues, we want to bring our non-prescription, OTC liquid medicines to FL. Last year we spent too much money having them delivered to the resort with Garden Grocer.

We will be using only carry-on and will not be able to check the medicines.

We have three 4oz bottles, unopened in their cardboard boxes still.

Current plan: remove the 3 bottles from our bag at security and put in bin with shoes, etc. Do not remove from carboard boxes or place in plastic bag.

Do you recommend changing this approach at all? Our other options include putting them in a plastic bag, removing them from their box (not particularly attractive given we want to use the measuring cups in the boxes) or sending them via post to ourselves at the resort and then sending them home or leaving them in our owner's locker.

Here's the TSA policy on the issue. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/specialneeds/index.shtm

Generally we keep DD's meds in a separate plastic bag so they are all together. You should probably plan to have them go through in their own bin. Our airport has the "ski hill" system with the green/blue/black lanes and people with medical liquids are directed to the green lanes, so that may happen at your airport as well.

Thanks! Our security lines are not grouped like that, but we will be at the smaller and less busy terminal 2 (hhh). We'll plan to keep them in their own bag and bin.

Be prepared that you may have to open the bottles even if they are in their original sealed boxes with the original safety seals. Back when my youngest couldn't swallow pills and still needed kid doses, we'd typically bring new bottles with us each trip just to be sure we'd have enough. Only once were we asked to open the bottle so the agent could test for explosives (it's a swab near the opening; totally safe for the meds) but it's good to know that it could happen. We had to take the safety seal off for them to do it.

Thanks! Opening them would be no big deal.

That may be true, but do you want Airport Security Screeners putting their equipment/swabs inside you med containers? :confused3

Haa..I see your still trying to scare people without facts.

Simply you bring the ligiud meds and they will sometimes check it with proper as you allege eqiupment.

If your not comfortable with that...........mail the meds ahead, keeping a small amount for the trip.

no biggie.....AKK

I mentioned on another thread that I've done this frequently with contact lens stuff (extra set of lenses, couple small bottles of solution, bottle of re-wetting drops).

I separate that stuff from the 3-1-1 bag and put it in a separate plastic bag (easier to pull out the whole bag than rummage around for several small bottles).

I put it in a bin, but don't bother to use a separate bin for just that. I usually just throw it on top of my shoes/jacket with the 3-1-1 bag. I've never had a TSA person ask me about it.

So basically, I wouldn't over think it. Put the 3 items in a baggie and put it in your bin.
