Next week, I will be taking a medical test (a pillcam) where I will need to skip dinner the day before, prep as if I was having a colonoscopy, and than swallow a small camera. The paperwork I got said I can eat a 'small snack' about 4 hours after I swallow the camera. I asked the doctor what he means by 'small snack' but he didn't really clarify. After (at this point, nearly 24 hours) my last meal, and... um... 'preping' I am sure I will be famished. But I don't want to mess up the test. So, does anyone have any experience with this test or want to guess what is considered a 'small snack'?

A few cheese and crackers, or a PB&J slice or toast slice. Something light.

Body Wars....comes to life. Wow. What a test!!

I think I'd be eating a yogurt to help things slide around in there. Good luck! And enjoy the show..... (will they let you watch? I just love to see things like that when I'm undergoing medical tests. Strange, I know. But fascinating).

I would probably just eat some crackers.

Hmmmm.......they really should give you some examples on your paperwork. I would think something like toast, or scrambled eggs, crackers, graham crakers or yogurt. Something light. I would call and run it by the nurse just to make sure.

Good Luck!

I had this test done last year. I honestly wasn't all that hungry and just had a yogurt and a cup of tea. The nurse told me to stick with a small bowl of soup or 1/2 a sandwich or something like that.

Probably the most unpleasant part of the whole procedure was having to verify that the camera was no longer with me.

That is what I was thinking, but will call and see if the nurse can give me more information. I am afraid that eating a really small snack may be worse than not eating at all - nausea wise.

I would call the office back. There is going to be someone at the clinic/hospital or dr's office that knows the answer.

I think this is good advice. One person's idea of a snack may be WAY different than another's. They should give more specific instructions - like maybe a few options.

I'd probably go for something in the 100-150 calorie range, and I'd try to make sure it has some protein to keep me from feeling starved. But I would call the doctor for clarification in case there is something that you shouldn't have (like no red/purple colored drinks before a colonoscopy kind of thing)
