It's things like that where I think the law is very necessary.

This was in 2000,which I believe was before..This was also a navy hospital that had never treated anyone HIV positive before. Clearly they had no clue how to deal with me

As far as the birth control/abortion thing goes: teenagers have rights too. If they don't want their parents to know they are sexually active, etc., then they shouldn't have to tell them. I knew far too many people in high school who were having unsafe sex/drunken sex, etc. because they didn't want to go on birth control and have their parents find out. So better safe than sorry, imo. As far as the abortion thing...well I feel that that's a personal decision and it shouldn't be up to anyone except the two people involved.

If my kids are under 18 and my responsibility I think I should have access to all of their medical records. The post I quoted above is exactly the type of thing that concerns me. Many young people out there are just worried about getting pregnant. So now all of these people having unsafe sex can go to the doctor and get birth control but that doesn't address the issue of STD's, AIDS, etc.

Any doctor worth their salt will address the issue of AIDS,STD's. It works both ways.. Some kids only resort wil be to go behind their parents back to get BC..Some kids will go to their parents to get help and the parents will refuse BC... The kid will have sex anyway and end up pregnant or G-d forbid,with AIDS... I think it works both ways. No solution is without risks

Until my kids are old enough to sign a legal and binding contract, then I am the person who signs off on EVERYTHING, including the medical bills, therefore, I am to have access to every detail of what I am contracting for (records). That said, this has not been an issue as we have an open relationship (and they have a clear understanding of that pesky 18/adult thing)

The thing that bugs the crud out of me is that my 7yo just had an OT evaluation for school, BUT I have to make an extra trip to the hospital to sign a release form that is only good for those records. She's my kid, I should be able to access all of her records without making a trip to the hospital. They will not allow me to sign a form and mail (heaven forbid you should FAX it!). It has gone too far. Next thing you know, there will be private cublicles to wait in and the nurse will have to smuggle you back to the exam room.

The thing is, though, the only reason a kid needs to go to the doctor for b-control is the pill, right? Or the patch, or shot. None of those protects from STD's. So again, there's a child taking medication and the parent doesn't have to know.

Condoms can be bought over the counter if the child is under 18, right? Or do they need to have a parent with them? At any rate, condoms are easy enough to get, I believe.

I can't imagine a kid going to a doctor for condoms!

No ,probably not,but a doctor giving a scrip for BCP should give the lecture on STD'd
