I worried about something and i thought you guys could help me. I just got a UTI and this makes me worried that I will be prone to another very shortly. I leave for disney in 3 weeks. If i get another UTI I can call my doctor to get a perscription... does disney have a place to fill perscriptions? Or close? I will not have a car durning my stay.

Thank you for your help.

I believe there is a pharmacy that delivers to the resorts. Hopefully someone will have the name. We normally have a car so I just head for Walmart as all my scripts are with them anyway.

There is a pharmacy named Turner Pharmacy that will deliver to WDW resorts for a small fee I think. I have the Passporter for Special Needs and hte info is in there. Apparently, they will not bill your insurance, but you can have the medicine charged to your resort room. There area also a lot of Walgreens, CVS, and grocery stores in the area that could fill a prescription. Hope this helps!

I had been very prone to UTIs, and recurrance however, I started taking Cranberry tablets at the first inkling of something being wrong and it has, I THINK, prevented several occurances/recurrances. Probably wouldn't hurt to get some cranberry tabs and take for a while before/during your trip. (you can drink cranberry juice if you like it instead!)
I'm not trying to say don't call your doctor, but this might help so you don't have to....and knowing what's nearby certainly helps no matter what! Have fun!

I have to agree with Joan. I have chronic UTI's and cranberry juice is the only thing that has stopped them. If I miss even a few days, I get another UTI.

I'v been drinking a lot of cranberry juice this week. You drink the the concentrated cranberry juice or take the pills. I was thinking of taking the pills for awhile.

Is your Dr. in Florida? I don't think Dr's can call scripts out of state....I may be wrong...

When we were in NC a few years ago our Pediatrician called in a script for our daughter, no problem (well, except for the # for the CVS there was WRONG on our rental house "helpful numbers" list!)
:confused3

I think if your prescription is at one of the nationwide pharmacies like CVS or Walgreens then it can be transferred. I don't believe the pharmacy can accept a script written by an out of state MD but if your MD call your local CVS then that CVS can switch it the FL CVS. I would check with your pharmacy and see what they would do. You know this has to happen alot.

Even if you don't use one of the national pharmacies, the FL pharmacy can call your local one to transfer the script in our experience. We've had a little local pharmacy refill a prescription from Walgreens. So Turner could call your home pharmacy I believe. I would call them and make sure of that before leaving home though.

Also I've never heard that pharmacies won't fill for out of state doctors. Is anyone sure of that? Every trip I carry around my son's script sheet in case we run out of refills on current prescriptions.

We have often gotten refills on current scripts at Walgreens in FL. You just call the number and enter your script #. It is automatically transferred so when you next refill at home, you'll need to enter the new script #.

I've gotten scripts filled in MI when my (purse was stolen) at a tiny local pharmacy, just with a phone call from my DR, as well as in NC at CVS, again with only a phone call from our doctor in CT.

My DH and all my friends make fun of me. When I go to WDW I am a traveling pharmacy. I always bring medication for a possible UTI, my doctor feels fine with me keeping one on hand just in case.i get them often and know the signs and symptoms.

Cranberry Juice is your friend... even the Mayo clinic online says so. If you keep drinking it between now and when you leave (and when you get there - bring some, buy some, something) it will really cut the risk of a future infection.

I've been prone to them since childhood and my doctor has a standard "nag" list that if I pay attention to really helps. Please don't take any of these the wrong way, I'm just listing her list pretty much verbatim.

1. drink lots of liquids and "go" whenever you feel the need - don't hold it.

2. drink cranberry juice periodically even if you don't feel like you're getting one - and drink it frequently when you're exposed to things that often lead to one.

3. the usual duh! of stay clean - particularly during your TOM.

4. stay dry - don't wander about in wet clothing or swimsuits - on long trips where its hard to change clothes mid-day and its hot enough I know I'll be sweating I sometimes use the "everyday" type liners... the little ones.

5. I don't know how to phrase this one  - Drink a glass of water before, and always go to the bathroom after any non-public displays of affection. My doctor swears this one is almost the most important.

6. wear cotton or breathable clothing - this goes back to the stay dry.

As a kid I used to get them ALL the time, now that I follow the list above its usually only a problem when certain things happen (long road trips where I don't drink enough, TOM etc...).

With UTI's - prevention is the best cure. Good luck and drink that cranberry juice!

ps - make sure you get cranberry juice with the most cranberry in it - not the blends where its like 27% juice but the first 1-2 juices on the list are white grape and apple - you want maximum cranberry content so stick to all-cranberry juice ones, or the ones where they list the cranberry juice content separately and its at least 18-20% of product total.

I believe the only prescriptions you would not be able to get filled would be for controlled substances. Your pharmacy can confirm that for you.

I have gotten prescriptions transferred to Florida temporarily. It worked just the way that the other posters mentioned.

If you do get a prescription filled at a Pharmacy that won't bill your insurance, bring the bills back and you can submit them to your insurance later.

Thanks so much for the list....! I got the "real" concentrated canberry juice from GNC. You mix it with 4parts water and it does'nt have all the sugar those other drinks have. I was drinking light ocenaspray cranberry but even that had a lot of sugar and i would mix it with water to streach it a bit.

I went to the doctor again. I'm on another round of antibiotics and i may have kidney stones. Going for a kidney ultrasound tomarrow.

ha ha I thought i was the only who heard this from their doc's. :rotfl:

Good luck with the ultrasound.

talk with your doctor about what medication he would like you to take, he may change his mind if the UTI's are not completely cleared up with the first round of antibiotics, let him know about the vacation and hopefully you can work out something that will let you fill the Rx before you go - one less things to worry about.

Cranberry juice is strongly supported in all of the medical literature for prevention of UTI's. It has a chemical compound that makes the bacteria unable to attach to lining. It does not treat, but does help prevent. The previous writer were correct in the fact that you need to drink or take the tablets daily, and it needs to be craberry juice and not the cocktail. I also agree with the other prevention listed above. Keep the area clean and as dry as possible.

Good luck
