And a definition in the regulations implementing the ACAA is:

The term physical or mental impairment includes, but is not limited to, such diseases and conditions as orthopedic, visual, speech, and hearing impairments; cerebral palsy, epilepsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, mental retardation, emotional illness, drug addiction, and alcoholism.

See 14 C.F.R. § 382.3 (emphasis added). Lewisc may not himself consider diabetes to be a disability, but he is dead wrong about what the law requires.

Thanks. I knew it was somewhere in the law or regs but I just didn't have the time to find it.

I've had to delete a lot of posts on this thread.

Remember that you need to respond to others here RESPECTFULLY. If you want to insult, argue and bicker, take it to Private Messages. The rest of us don't want to see it.

Thanks.

we have flown on spirit at least a dozen times and have never had a problem with our medical bag. Its a large canvas bag with all medicines and equipment necessary. I have a note from the dr/hospital explaining the necessity of the items in the bag and have never needed to show it. I do declare the medicines during security so they can check them, but other than that no issues nor was ever charged extra. I don't put anything in it other than medical supplies. You should be fine :-) Happy traveling

went to the airport today to ask about this since my son and i both suffer from asthma and use a nebulizer. We travel Sept 13 on Spirit. I was told as long as only medical equipment and meds were in the bag that it would be free and not counted as my personal bag. They suggested if i was worried just to have the dr write something stating that it was medically necessary and might in fact need to be used on the plane in the event of an asthma attack. He also suggested that if anyone else in our party needed meds to just put everything in one bag for the ease of going thru security.

Thanks! It round up being a mute point anyway. We decided to share a checked bag, even though very little will be in it going down there. Since we've already prepaid for two carry ons, we have plenty of space. I just finished packing a few minutes ago and it came out that my mom is not even going to need a personal item. So we put her nebulizer, nebulizer treatments, pill boxes, syringes, lancets chem strips, nose spray, etc in a tote. At the last minute we'll add her glucometer, insulin, and my Victoza pen. Nothing will be in there that is not medically related, but if they have a problem with it being in the overhead, it will still easily fit under her seat as a personal item.

Seriously you guys???? Can't a mom take a day or two to get her kid off to college without having to worry about you guys messing around??? And to have to have a WM come and clean up????
Well...I'm mortified!!! So embarrassing.
The answer has been given, no more is needed.
