Due to a IV that my niece has to receive while in DW - we were led to believe there is medical assistance on site if necessary as she might also need a dressing changed over the IV area - is this correct and how do I find them. Thanks so much

I hope there is for you, but just in case you find out there isn't. Can't you get the doctor to show you how to do a dressing change? I'm a nurse and often we teach people how to do dressing changes at home.

Hope you find on-site assistance.

Yes - we just wanted the info "in case of" - right now my niece is getting out of the hospital and the dr's have said YES go to DW (we leave the 15th of Dec). They are showing my sister how to do this - but she heard they do have some kind of assistance for kids with medical problems and wanted to check into it - just in case.

I believe the nurses at first aid are registered nurses but not sure they can help with dressing changes or you may need to go to an urgent care or other facility if your sister can't do it.

The nurses at the First Aid stations at WDW are there to treat emergencies or unusual circumstances. They do not do routine "nursing". If it becomes necessary to change a dressing in a park they would be able to provide a private area, and probably things like alcohol, etc.

And medical services are not provided at the Resorts. If you need medical assistance they will either call for a doctor for you or will assist in transport to either an ER or Urgent Health Center.

::yes::

I am an RN and have worked in both hospitals and home care.
Nurses have to work under doctor's orders. In the case of First Aid, they would have 'Standing Orders' that cover what to do in case of emergencies or common situations that guests come in with, like heat exhaustion, sun burn, etc.
They would be able to store supplies for her or provide things like Cheshire Figment mentioned. They would not be equipped with orders to do things like dressing changes.

Right now, everything probably seems very overwhelming to her, but a dressing change is actually a pretty easy procedure and I am sure that she will be doing it with no problems by the time she goes to WDW. If she is very concerned about it, she could look into Home Health services to come to the resort to change the dressing for her. She could check with the Social Worker at the hospital for help with that.

Thanks for the responses - and you are correct - the home care nurse that came in to explain everything to her was wonderful. She is now doing it without any problems. The social worker did give her the name of something at WDW - but I cant remember the name of it. Thanks again
