"Mechanical" Behind the Scenes Tours?

Is there any kind of behind the scenes tour on the Magic where you would see some of the mechanical workings of the ship? DH actually asked me to post here about this (instead of complaining about the amount of time I spend reading the DISBoards, LOL) as he is interested in doing something like that. I know that there has been a bridge tour in the past, but I'm not sure it's still happening and/or what it involves.

DH is not obsessed with all things Disney as are myself and the DDs, so if he is actually interested in knowing about something, I'd like to try and find out for him!

it's not actually "behind the scenes," but the last time we took a cruise on the Magic, we attended a lecture by the captain who explained how the ship was designed, built, staffed, maintained, how it runs, etc. He had slides. We attended to fulfill a "homework" assignment for my son, but all of us learned a lot. I'd bet your husband would enjoy it.

Thanks for the reply, Goofyb! Does anyone who has been recently know if the bridge tour is still being offered as well? Thanks-

Carla

Yes....the Bridge Tour is offered on Port Days in the afternoon. They only take a small group of reservations and it will be listed in the Navigator when you can sign up.

We have taken the bridge tour and it was terrific. If you can get a reservation for a tour, I would highly recommend that you take it.

Does the bridge tour include areas other than the bridge as well (not that the bridge itself isn't interesting, I'm sure!)? Just trying to get details for DH... thanks-

Carla

Since I'm an Engineer this type of tour sounded great for me so I asked when we took our cruise last fall. I was told that other than the "How the ship was buildt" discussion and slides and the Bridge tour other tours had been stopped for security reasons. I was even told some of the pictures had been changed for the same reason.

Sure is a sad time we live in where tours of interesting places have be limited for security concerns. I'm sure glad I took the inside the Dam hard hat tour of Hoover Dam before 9/11!!

I also took a tour inside of a dam prior to 9/11. They are incredibly facinating pieces of work. Not just a "big o' slab of concrete" across a river.
