Can anyone tell me:

can you ask someone at MCO to hail the taxi for you?

Can you ask someone at Disney All Stars movie to hail the taxi for you?

Have you had any issues with Mears taxi credit card scanners not working?

Not looking for suggestions of Uber/Lyft or other transportation services. Just read really bad reviews about the Mears Taxi app and wanted to ask here.

I haven’t used a taxi at MCO for a while, but when I did, there was a taxi stand. You stood in line to wait for a taxi, there was a person working at the front of the line and they kept it organized. There was a long line of taxis and you waited your turn and just got in when it was your “turn”, no need to hail a taxi. At ASM there are luggage CM’s out front, they can call a taxi or you can, they call the same number you would. The number for Mears taxi is 407-423-5566. Just tell them where you want to be picked up. Can’t speak to the cc scanners.

Thank you for this.

We’ve had issues with private transports when you booked them through Disney when they partnered with Transtar.

We’ve also had issues with the Super Star shuttle you book through Universal (which is Mears).

We dont trust ride share companies.

And I’m not paying $200 for 2 people for a private transfer company.

I believe Mears also has an app that you can use to request a taxi. I believe you can then track its progress and arrival similar to an Uber or Lyft. Or you can just call.

Often times there may be a taxi waiting around the luggage or lobby area that you can simply wave to as well. Be a little careful to make sure it is Mears if that is what you want.

Yes, I said in my post about the app. It has a lot of BAD reviews about reservations not being picked up or no show. They call and ask and are told “we will get you one when we can”.

That’s also my experience when calling when my Mears Super Star Shuttle was a no show.

Mears drivers are independent contractors. You can request a ride via the app or a call. Drivers have the option to take the fare, somilar to ride share. Mears doesn't dispatch, assign cabs to passengers.

You can't make a real reservation. Mears puts out a requst for your ride 10-15 minutes ptior to your "reservation" time.

PP already told you about taxi queue at MCO. All stars is going to call the same Mears number you call.

An airport run is desirable. Getting a taxi shouldn't be that hard.

I know everybody has their own trust level about things, particularly when it comes to transportation. For myself, personally, I'm okay using Uber or Lyft. But I am not comfortable using a credit card in a taxi. It feels like it would be too easy for another passenger to put a skimmer on the machine (if it's in the back) or for the driver to put a skimmer on the machine (if it's in the front). I always use cash if I take a taxi.

But like I said, everybody has their own trust level about things.

It’s easier for me to stop/cancel a credit card than it is for me to stop/cancel a person from kidnapping/killing me. I feel a real taxi company is safer than Uber/Lyft.

As I said in my post, there are a lot of bad reviews of the app. I would expect calling to be the same, that’s why i was asking about taxis being THERE (at the resort/airport).

You asked if
Can you ask someone at Disney All Stars movie to hail the taxi for you?
The resort will call the same phone # you call.

Good chance there'll be a taxi in the general area, which will respond to the app or a.phone call.

When I say hail a taxi, that means there is one nearby they signal. Reserve and call are 2 entirely different things than hail.

There is no longer the ability to “hail” a cab at a resort. Most major airports have a taxi line you wait in line and the cab you get no matter the company is what will take you to your desired drop off point. Disney resorts years ago had taxi lines but with shuttles and Uber/lyft they no longer do so they will call a taxi service they choose for you whatever the wait time is will be as stated above. If your looking for a taxi to be there at the times you want the only option these days is private companies. If you want a best suggestion a private car service will be the best choice with what you want all else will be subject to waiting and possibly a hassle. What is trying to be said is Uber/lyft these days work the same way as a taxi service. The difference is Uber/lyft drivers own the car, taxi drivers rent the car they are all private contractors and not employees of the taxi company/ Ube/lyft and therefor the actual companies take. 0 responsibility for the driver other then going through a state minimum vetting process. If you want a company that uses employees of that company which the company has to take responsibility for, late, poor manors etc private is your only option.

There are actually way more safety features in the Lyft/Uber apps then just calling a cab. You can share your ride with anyone (they can follow you in real time and see that you were dropped off), and the app will send you a notification if the ride is taking longer than expected to make sure you're okay. I think there are other features, as well. And if you have a negative experience you can report it (and it will affect their driver rating, which riders can see).

Personally, taxi drivers and Uber/Lyft drivers are all strangers to me, so to me they all have the same chance of being a kidnapper. I don't see inherently why a taxi driver would be 'safer' in that regard.

Not trying to argue/change your mind, just sharing my perspective.

I agree 100% with this. I feel rideshares are safer than a taxi and 99% of the time, much cleaner. The Uber/Lyft drivers own the cars so they have more incentive to keep the vehicles clean. The rideshare drivers (at least in my state) have to to through background checks, and I believe they do in FL, too. You will know the name of your driver, what they look like, the make and model of their car, and plate number before they pick you up. If you do not want to use the tracking safety features in their apps, you can screenshot the information and send it to a contact. I do all of that as well as use the tracking feature. A taxi doesn't offer any of that. And with a rideshare, you are not giving them your credit card to pay for the ride, it is all set up in advance and no "money" is exchanged unless you want to tip in cash. The OP said "It’s easier for me to stop/cancel a credit card than it is for me to stop/cancel a person from kidnapping/killing me. I feel a real taxi company is safer than Uber/Lyft." Why would you be any safer in a taxi? As stated previously, you have way more safety, in terms of features and information, using a rideshare - as long as you get in the correct vehicle, that's on you to check. But, to each his own and if one feels more comfortable in a taxi where you most likely don't even know the drivers name or plate number of the vehicle, that is fine.

Is Mears Taxi the same as Mears connect? All this talk about bad reviews for Mears Taxi has me concerned lol. My family and I booked Mears connect as our flight doesn't get in until 11:59pm at MCO and than we take Mears connect to All Star Sports.

No, same company but different services. Mears Connect is a coach bus (or sometimes a van) that takes numerous passengers to the Disney resorts. It normally has multiple stops at the different hotels. Mears taxi is just that, a traditional taxi service.

Ah ok, I kind of figured since I did a quick Google but wanted to double check just to try and dissuade my concerns lol. Thank you!

And at that time of night, they may be using one of their vans instead of a coach bus.
That's why I also did standard instead of express, thinking at that hour it wouldn't be busy? We wanted to do an earlier flight but doing such a later flight was $1k cheaper lol, hard to say no to that. More souvenir money lol.

I like how you think! Have a great trip! 😊
