What are some of the foods or ideas for breakfast and lunch that can made in the room? I am going to order from Von's but wonder what there is past the sandwiches. We will have a microwave and fridge.

Well, I always have to have my cheerios for breakfast so that's what I would bring for that. There's also bagels and cream cheese, muffins, eggos, fruit, orange juice and I think some people have done scrambled eggs in the microwave. I've also seen frozen breakfasts in the store.

For lunch i've brought those crackers with peanut butter on them, apple slices, cheese, yogurt, bagels. Vons also has premade 6 layer dip (refried beans, cheese, guac, sour cream, salsa etc) that I think is pretty good that you can eat with tortilla chips. I'm not sure if they have it online but it's in the deli section in the store. Or you could make your own dip if you bought all the ingredients (just remember to bring a can opener) Or, along those same lines, you could make burritos.

We always bring cereal and milk for breakfast as well as some bananas and individual Dole fruit cups. Hot cocoa packets. Pop tarts since I rarely let the kids eat those for breakfast at home; I call them a vacation treat. Often, I'll make muffins before we go so we start the trip with those and move on to the other stuff. I've always wanted to bring boiled eggs but never seem to get around to it.

For not breakfast, yogurt, lunch meat, cheese, even if we don't have bread with us. Those tuna packs with the pouch of tuna and little tube of mayonnaise. Extra crackers or bread to make the tuna sandwiches since the package never includes enough crackers. EasyMac. Individual microwave soups like chunky soup or tomato soup. Lots of fruit and vegetables since it seems like we don't eat enough of that stuff in the parks.

We brought muffins from Costco, Cereal and milk, gogurts, fruit (bananas, apples and apple slicer), instant oatmeal, granola bars, banana bread.

Microwaveable breakfast sandwiches are always good in the morning and sometimes a better choice than some of the typical continental breakfast items at the hotels. Cereal cups are good for little ones for an on-the-go breakfast or even to snack on in the park. Munchies, like Cheez Its or Ritz - trail mix can also be a healthy alternative. And t.v. dinners may even be a thought.

We usually get instant oatmeal, bananas, some snacky stuff (Little Debbie's are good and cheaper). Cold cereal is also good.

For lunch I'd go with sandwiches, PB&J, ham and cheese, etc. Cheese and crackers, lunchables, and soup would also be good choices. Veggies would be a good idea too. If you got baggies, you could make your sandwich and grab some carrot sticks, drop them in a baggie and to take into the park with you for lunch. If you do some frozen stuff (tv dinners etc) I'd do those first if you get them. The freezers are not the best and pretty small in the little refrig's.

Make sure to get some bottled water. You can take that to the parks with you so you don't have to buy it there.

We like to vary our sandwiches by using tortillas and making wraps/rollups. It just makes the lunchmeat seem a little different. Also, bakery buns/rolls can make them taste/seem different than traditional bread sandwiches. :) We also buy summer sausage and cheese then make little cracker, sausage, cheese snacks. Paired with peapods, carrots and grapes makes a great lunchtime meal. If you can keep your food cold in the park you can consider canned chicken mixed with some ranch dressing to make chicken salad sandwiches or wraps.

We bring a small soft side cooler with us and it holds sandwiches, cut up apples, grapes, carrot sticks, celery sticks. We also bring some sliced tomato to add to our sandwiches - no one likes them pre-made with tomato. We bring pb&j for the kids. My kids do like their pb sandwiches on tortillas with honey, too.

We also add small bags of chips and sometimes the small bags of cookies. We mix up the lunch meat and toppings for our sandwiches - we find we don't get bored with them at DLR - especially when we consider that our kids would probably be eating chicken nuggets or burgers and fries for almost every meal.

We add variety with our fruit/vegie choices and we have some small blue ice packs that keep everything cool. So, you could bring chicken salad or tuna and still be okay.

We have done hummus in a pita with roasted peppers (can get in a jar), lettuce, cucumber, feta cheese - maybe artichoke hearts or olives. If their deli sells roasted veggies, that would be good.

We took those Jimmy Dean frozen breakfast sandwiches (microwaved in the room) along with us to munch on while we walked to the park in the morning. While a bit too expensive for me to use all the time at home, it was far cheaper than breakfast in the park and offered a bit of protein along with the carbs.

All of that food sounds tasty! :) How about the lunchables? When on sale, or when purchased at a discount retailer, the pricing is very good and economical too.
I like to bring in my own water, with the drink add ins. And trail mix. Target has trail mixes that are very tasty and reasonably well priced too.

Happy munching! :)

We like to stay away from some of the high sodium/high fat things like lunchables but the kids love them so I bring them in for them. We also like:

~ oatmeal
~ bagel sanwiches made with turkey, hummus, avo, cuc, and tomato. Yummy, healthy, and filling!
~ cereal, like a corn flake and strawberries
~ string cheese and a piece of fruit
~ baby carrots are a great snack
~ crackers, celery, and peanut butter
~ beef jerky
