Hello everyone. This will be our family's first (indeed my very first) trip on a plane and I'm not sure what to expect in terms of meals.
I know that the TSA is really tight on what can be brought in. It seems that we are allowed to bring in liquids, not greater than 3 ounces in quantity, sealed in a quart size ziplock bag (in each person's carry-on that is).
Our flight is scheduled to depart around 7 am so there is no way we will be eating breakfast at home. Most likely we will eat on the plane or in the terminal after clearing security.
I want to bring maybe bagel sandwiches or porridge in a lidded container-but I guess porridge is not the best idea with it being a liquid. Okay so we could bring bagel sandwiches wrapped up of course, and perhaps small fruit cups. Some nuts. As far as I understand, once they are wrapped up and meet any liquid requirements, we should be okay right?
I am not planning on spending $100 buying food at the airport when I can prepare something for free at home.
Thanks so much for any advice.:)

Liquids would need to be within the limited size as you mentioned AND fit into a quart-size ziplock bag. One quart-size bag per person. I would consider a bagel or muffin and some unpeeled fruit, such as bananas, apples, or oranges. A box of raisins would be easy, too.

I would stick with dry foods. You'll need to save most of the space in your quart sized bag for toiletries and stuff. You can buy drinks in the airport after you clear security.

Fruit cups would fall under the 3oz liquid rule so I would stay away from bringing those. I have taken bananna's and have not had issues at security. Poptarts, cereal bars and donuts are another option. If you have a non stop flight I would just eat lite and then eat when you get to Disney. we usually bring poptart or cereal bars with us to also have in the room for breakfast. You know for those time when you wake up and are starving but not ready to go out in public to get something to eat.

Thank you much folks. Looks like we would be within the guidelines. There was some conflicting data online but looks like I've got it right.

Sandwiches, bagels etc are fine as are fruits, snacks and nuts (unless there is an allergy onboard). Anything that can hold its shape outside the container is fine. You can also bring a small cooler and use frozen grapes as an ice pack.

In addition you can purchase food and drinks in the terminal after you clear security to bring onboard. We usually get our drinks in the terminal to bring on board so we can have what we like and don't have to wait on the FA to serve. So you could purchase drinks, fruit cups, yogurt etc after you clear security and add that to your cooler.

What did you find that was conflicting?

Sorry. Did not check back on this thread until now.
I recall reading something about NO food being allowed on the plane at all. The TSA website is pretty clear though. Thanks again everyone!

For awhile, they did not allow any liquids bought in the airport on the plane (over 3.4 oz). But that ended awhile ago.

Delta still serves "free" drinks. Bagels are fine to bring. You can buy cream cheese or peanut butter in small to go cups that you can put in your qt baggie. Banannas, apples, grapes, etc. travel well. Porriage, asside from possibly being considered a liquid, would be messy. Also, no ice packs allowed through security.

Thank you for this. We have resolved to bring bagel sandwiches and some fruit.

Not correct. Ice packs are allowed if they are frozen solid. This is clearly stated on the tsa.gov website.

Yes but if the pack is:

partially melted, slushy, or have any liquid at the bottom of the container, they must meet 3-1-1 requirements.

Ice packs may be allowed but many passengers will find the packs have defrosted enough to be banned.

I don't know if I was lucky, but I took Delta last November and was able to bring sandwiches, bottles of water, soda on the plane. There are food shops right outside the terminal.

There is no restriction on bringing food and beverages on the plane as long as they are purchased after you clear security.

The TSA has restrictions on what you can bring though securit screening. One of those restrictions is on the amount and quantities of liquids and gels you can bring into the "secure area" - more info here:
