I've read that there is a charge for spltting a meal at Blue Bayou.... but I can't seem to fin that charge. Does anyone know?:worried:

The last I heard it was a $12 up charge for splitting a plate. Corrected.

DD and I split a meal there back in May. I'm pretty sure it was $12.

It was worth it though, the portions were huge.

Wow. $12 is ridiculous in my opinion. You can go get an entire meal at the Plaza Inn for close to that price, right?

The plate splitting charge is because each person gets their own sides and appetizer (soup or salad). I've read that you can bypass the charge if you tell the server you want just one meal and two plates (i.e., no individual sides and appetizers).

It is $12 to split the entree, but each person gets their choice of soup or salad and they give you each a portion of the sides.

You can opt to forgo the charge and ask for an extra plate. Then you only get one app and one entree to share.

I think it is pretty reasonable because it is a table service restaurant in high demand. Other restaurants I have been to charge you just to half the entree and give you no extra sides or appetizer. So Disney is pretty generous in that regard.

You know I am not afoodie.I wanted to give you my take on this place. My son is a CM, he had a 40% off coupon we had been carrying since January that we finally got to use.We all ordered something different and passed samples around. The food was really good, the regular price was overwhelming to me.But we did enjoy it at 40% off hey it was a once in lifetime.

We tried the Monte Cristo, the chicken grilled, the steak or beef, and something else.My daughter had the light up drink.Overall it was great. We went for late lunch before the crowd. You really have to get a waterside table. We were a row back it wasn't that memorable a view. Not awful but not great either.I enjoyed it I don't think I would fool with it again.

I personally would go there hungry and order something each and different and pass around samples.Try a little of everything.I understand if you aren't hungry the meal splitting but the $12 here seems to make it almost worth your while it to order something.

I would also tell others if you miss this as we had done before your life will still be complete.I enjoyed it one time with my son.The service here was excellent.I am just not a table service food kind of fancy person.

We love Blue bayou and eat there every trip...my adult daughter does not eat that much so we shared a meal and there was no extra charge...the server brought an extra plate for both the salad and the entree! Plenty of food for both of us!

We've split without the upcharge at Blue Bayou a couple times. I split with DS13 and my husband splits with DS12. DS12 and I don't need the soup or salad (even 1/2 an entree is too much food!) so we let DS13 and my husband have it. Last year, the CM asked whether we wanted the extra soup/salad or not. Before that, we had to be specific when ordering.

That's how it was when we ate there a week ago. We told the waiter that we wanted to split the meal. He asked us if we wanted an extra plate for free to split it or pay $12 and we would each get our own soup/salad and fruit skewer. We went with the $12 charge, a little pricey for the extra food you get but in line with the overall menu prices and about what I'd expect to pay at a nicer restaurant.

Thanks for the tip that you don't have to pay the plate splitting fee! We have eaten there a few times and always paid the $12. Next time we will just ask for an extra plate and share the meal :)

I think $12.00 is an extremely reasonable split plate fee. I'd rather pay that for a bowl of soup and some bread sat down with somebody serving it to me than waiting in lines and then trying to find a reasonable place to sit.

I think i just love the Blue Bayou and am willing to pay the extra $ (honestly I don't think it's THAT expensive, considering). I've had a split plate with the side and without and once I wasn't charged the split fee for the side.

Also, if they are actually splitting and bringing you two plates, pre-dressed (not simply an extra plate for you to do yourself) you will often be getting more than if you split it yourself. The portion is slightly bigger when they do it that way at many restaurants.

Please remember the waiters! You should tip a bit extra if you are sharing or splitting a plate. It is just as much work for them and this is a classy place!

I second that. They deserve it. The tip should be calculated as if you had ordered separate entrees.

I'm a pretty generous tipper, but disagree that you should tip on two full entrees. That's sort of ridiculous. You aren't ordering that. If I order dessert only, I'm not leaving a tip for the full meal. That would be ridiculous as well.

The tip is for the waiter's service to you. The waiter still has to serve two people, two split plates. The waiter is still serving two entrees, just split. The waiter is also serving the second person drinks and probably the soup or salad that goes with the entree. I got this information from a "fancy restaurant" guide. I hadn't ever looked at it that way myself until I read that and realized they do just as much work. It might seem ridiculous, but I follow this rule now when I split plates (which is often). If you ask for a second plate and you split it yourself that would be different.
