For those that have shared meals at table service restaurants (NOT on the dining plan), what has your experience been? My DBF and I would probably want to share an appetiser, entree and dessert.

Is this frowned upon by the servers? Your opinions, please...

Thanks :cloud9:

DH and I have done that. We usually each get an appetizer, and then split an entree. No one has ever said anything about it. We usually tip more for allowing us to do it (about what we would expect to tip for 2 full dinners)

My Mom and I did exactly that at California Grill, Jiko, Palio, WCC, Kona Cafe and Beaches & Cream, and ALL the servers were great about it. Actually, they had everything split onto two plates without us even asking! NO problems at all!

They've never had a problem with it and it was always split in the back for us. We also tip a little extra.

Hmmm... I never considered this. Has anyone split on the DDP?

We were thinking of splitting at WCC and then just paying OOP for it... but if they wouldn't mind us doing it on the DDP, that would be great!!!!

Sharing and splitting on the DDP is hot debate right now... :firefight

... but at WCC you can't share the skillet since it is all you can eat. I don't see why you couldn't share other things though...

i have heard the same about sharing an all you can eat skillet at wcc....not liked :furious:

dw and i have shared many a meal...rose and crown a few times and liberty tree tavern (lunchtime) are a couple where we have done this with no problems :goodvibes

Wow... have you also done this on the DDP?

We have shared at Prime Time, Sci Fi, Tusker House, and ESPN... simply because of their large portions. (At ESPN, we just shared two appetisers and each got some alcoholic bevies)

DF and I both like nachos ... and the looks of the pasta at WCC... but, we think if we each got an appetiser, entree and dessert it would be way too much.

I also have a stomach condition where I can't eat a lot in one sitting, I can certainly eat a lot in one day though. :rotfl: I also can't eat and drink at the same time... I have to do it like a half hour apart. So, to remedy this, I try to pick of DF's plate generally. And, he orders one heck of a big meal! :cheer2:

WE share all the time at WDW. Why waste food? It's never been an issue. WE've never done the dining plan. Often we'll order an appetizer or two and one entree. Sometimes, we might each order entrees, but one dessert. It's never been an issue anywhere. We've also ordered one entree with an extra salad or veggie or soup. At WDW, no matter what, our family often shares everythign anyhow. Who needs to eat a full order of fries? A whole box of popcorn? or an entire brownie?

I also order the kiddie size ice cream at soft serve places, because that's all the ice cream I can eat. If they have to charge me for the next size up, so be it. Usually they don't though, and I'm less likely to return if they do.

I wouldn't dine somewhere where it was an issue. The obvious exception to this would be sharing an all you can eat skillet (or buffet). Still, even with that, they always bring a complete skillet. I don't eat bacon, so it just gets thrown out. I would tend to skip the skillet unless someone else at the table was getting it too, or I'd tell the server to skip the bacon. That's also a problem I have with LTT. I don't eat the ham, so I hate for them to bring it to my table. It's not like you can take a doggie bag from there.

DSis and I split every time we remember to do so...and next time we have vowed to do so more. It has never been a problem. The kitchen splits the dish on to two plates, so it's not like one of us has a salad plate and the other has the dinner plate. We figure it is better to split than waste all that food. When we get our own entrees, half of it goes into the trash. We have never been on the DDP, so I can't comment on that.
