I'm back from my first trip to Disney World. I have to admit to only finding the DIS board a few weeks before my trip and was not prepared. I had heard about PS here but had figured I can't decide where I want to eat ahead of time so didn't make any and figured I would eat at counter service for the most part. I was there for 9 days and I have to tell you by the third day of eating burgers, hot dogs etc. I was ready to have a sit down meal. Here are the places I tried and unbelievably got into without PS. I think being a solo diner has its advantages.
SciFi at MGM--Even without PS I only had to wait 15 minutes here to be seated. What a wonderful place to relax and have a snack. I was intrigued by the concept of sitting in cars and watching a video while you ate. I was not disappointed. The atmosphere was unique and the service great. I just wanted a snack here so had onion rings and a milkshake. Probably the best onion rings I have ever had. Only dissappointment was they didn't serve tartar sauce but my server was very inventive and brought me mayonaise and relish and we made our own version. Would go here again in a heartbeat.
Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom--Very unusual place. A unique concept with all the atmosphere but I have to say that it was just a little too busy and noisy for me here. During the storm little children would be frightened and scream and cry. Just wasn't a relaxing meal for me. But the food and drink were amazing. I had 2 Raspberry Rainfalls. Wonderful frozen libation. I had the Paradise Pot Roast for lunch and it was wonderful.
L Originale Alfredo di Roma at Epcot--My favorite place on the whole trip. The atmosphere is amazing. The staff are excellent. From the moment you walk in they are attentive and so helpful.
My waiter was very friendly and since I was on my own took time to chat with me for a few moments. I enjoy white zinfandel or any sweet wine and asked him to suggest something different that I might like and he did an excellent job(sorry can't remember what it was). I had the Tritiro di Past an assortment of dishes (lasagna, fettuccine, and Gnocchi Pomedoro). Superb. And when the guy came around with the tray of desserts I couldn't resist. Boy I wish they had something where you could try a little bit of everything because the all looked so nummy. I got a custard filled pastry that was covered in chocolate whipped cream. Heavenly. Pricey restaurant but well worth every penny.
Planet Hollywood--I was pleasantly surprised here. I had heard some people say it was too crowded and noisy but I wanted to try it myself. I got right in without any wait and loved the set up. The food was good and the service quick and pleasant. Lots of things to choose from. I ate the Chicken Penne with Brocolli. Large portion so I had left overs for the next day. I would like to go back and try something different.
Mama Melrose at MGM--If you can't tell I like italian food..lol. I have to say though I was slightly dissappointed by this place. There was not much selection on the menu. There was only one cream sauce dish available so my choice was limited. I will say though that my waiter and the chef were great. I explained to my waiter my dillema because the one alfredo sauce dish had peppers and onions and I couldn't eat them. He had the chef come out and talk to me and he had no problem eliminating those things. It was a wonderful meal. The food was great and the waiter was very attentive.
California Grill--I can't wait to go back to WDW and eat here again. I went here on the spur of the moment and though they didn't have a table I had my pic of places to sit in the lounge area. The lounge is actually very cozy and I was pleased to sit there. I was surprised though when a couple asked if they could sit with me while they waited for friend to join them for dinner. We chatted and when their friends arrived they invited me to join them for dinner. It was great to be able to share with them and I truly enjoyed this dinner. Anyways to the restaurant. I loved the set up here. We had a table closer to the kitchen which I found intriquing. I loved that you could watch and listen to the orders and how they prepare the food. We all enjoyed watching this throughout the night. Our waiter was incredible. He was talkative and funny. He asked about all of us and shared things about himself. Even showed us a picture of his dogs since we were all animal lovers. I ordered the Grilled Pork Tenderloin. Wow. The presentation was neat and the food out of this world. I enjoyed every last bite. The other ladies also had the same thing and the gentlemen had the chicken and everyone had rave reviews. We each ordered something different for dessert. I had the Nectarine tart with ice cream. Very tasty. I loved the plates when they are brought out. The presentation makes the experience so much better.
I truly had a blast trying out these places and can't wait for my next trip to try some new ones and repeat my favorites. I think I may even make some PS next time. Thanks everyone.
