meal plan

This is my first time posting! I'm planning a trip in November for my boyfriend and I. I'm a light eater; he's NOT. I can't decide if the meal plan is worth it because I don't remember how much the food costs. The Disney site says $15-$25 for many places in EPCOT that we're interested in, but that's a big range. What is realistic to spend on dinner in EPCOT's China, Norway or Germany or the Sci-Fi place at MGM? These are examples of the type of place we'd go except for maybe a special treat to Le Cellier Steakhouse. We generally order only a main course, no appetizer or dessert. Also, what about lunch? Do I need to budget $10 each or will it likely be less? How much are kids meals? Adults can buy kids meals, right?

Thank you!!

You can check out the menus at www.allearsnet.com - click on Dining and you'll see all of the restaurants listed. Keep in mind that some Epcot World Showcase restaurants are not owned by Disney (they're third-party owned/managed), so they are not participating in the dining plan at this time.

To see the participating list of Dining Plan restaurants, click here and the full brochure is here .

A great overview of the dining plan can be found at the Unofficial Guide's MYW Dining page. That might help you determine if it's a good idea for you.

Hope this helps!

I forgot to welcome you to the DISboards!!

Also, if you're not doing the dining plan: I think you can order kids meals at counter service restaurants - for all they know, the kids could be sitting at a table waiting for their grub! :earboy2:

My mother and i are going May 15-21 and have figured out the meal plan to be worth it to us. Normally, lunch (meal and drink) come up to $5-$10 doing counter service (prob morelike $10)

For sit down meals, it includes app, entree, dessert and non-alc drink.
Figure:

app--$5
entree---10 (could be more depending on where you go)
dessert---$5
drink---$3

that's $28 plus lunch would be close to ifnot over $35/day

i think there is a great assortment of choices where to eat

Thanks for the welcome and the advice. Any specific recommendations for restaurants?

Also, I keep reading that it is really hard to get around to other hotels without a car. True? It seems like many eating options are not in the parks.

Well, I think these estimates are a bit low.

Counter svc lunch will run you around $10- $13 per person. This includes a combo, drink, and dessert, or an entree, side, drink, and dessert. Don't forget to add in the tax!

Snacks will be about $2- $3

Sit down dinners are going to run you about $30- $40 each person...
Appetizer- 5 to 7
Entree- 14 and up!!! (mostly up!)
Dessert- 5 to 7
Non alcoholic drink- 2
Tax & tip- 6 to 8

If you price the plan according to the food you are allotted, you will absolutely save $$$. HOWEVER, if you aren't big eaters, don't usually do a three-course dinner, or eat mostly counter svc, the plan might not be for you.

Well, we are planning on eating dinner at the following (I'll note with an * if we've eaten there before): Cinderella's Royal Table*, 50's Prime Time Cafe, O'Hana, Garden Grill, Liberty Tree Tavern*, Concourse Steakhouse or Tony's Town Square*, and Whispering Canyon (WL)

As for counter-service, so far we're eating lunch at Roaring Forks (WL), El Pirata Y El Perico, Tusker House*, Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station (replacing Plaza Pavilion in MK), Sunshine Season Food Fair*, and ABC Commissary*.

I'm not sure about the transportation to the other hotels from your own hotel - but we'll probably go to most from the parks, or transfer to the parks then to the hotels.

We'll probably eat breakfast in the hotel food court (paying separately).

I like the restaurants we've eaten at in the parks. princess:

My DH are like that too. Im a lighter eater than him, we just came back two weeks ago from the world and we just figured out that it would have been about 200 cheaper for us to get the dining package. So next time which is according to my ticker half a year away we are getting the dining package added to our reservation.

Here is how we came to the decision to use the meal plan.
It works out to be 35.00 per day per adult, plus tax. 10.00/day for kids
the meal plan includes 1 table service, 1 snack, 1 counter service....
based on the prices of the places we wanted to eat....well, lets just say I plan to use the 35.00 per person, just for the sit downs. This is our first time to Disney and I wanted to eat at all of the places I have been reading about and figured the meal plan would save us close to 20% or more.

Hope this helps

CRT is listed on the Disney MYW brochure as being a table service choice for lunch or dinner, but not breakfast.

As far as Fantasmic, we called Disney reservations three different times trying to book a Fantasmic package with MYW dining package, and all three times we were told no. (We tried 3 times because you do sometimes get conflicting information from different cast members, especially with this new plan)

How old is the brochure -- they have changed things around several times. Deb Wills' site definitely has the CRT breakfast listed as being a choice for the dining plan.

The CRT breakfast is included in the Dining Plan... all of the character meals are. The character meals are listed seperately in the brochure- I think CRT is listed as "Cinderella's Royal Celebration Breakfast" or something similar.

I have PS for the CRT breakfast and have the dining plan. They ask that when you call and I didn't need a credit card to hold my reservation as I have the dining plan. So yes it is included. Hope that helps.

I have a question... We are staying 1 day before our timeshare and 1 day after at ASM. Are we available to dining plan the day after we sleep there or day going into our room and day out of? Kinda confusing. Also we have to purchase MYW tickets w/ it as a package? Thanks ahead of time

The brochure is weird. There is one entry for cinderalla's royal table (under the C's) for LD but if you go down about 7 or 8 lines under the O's you will see a different entry for "once upon a time breakfast at crt which is marked for B under the charactor meal column.

I noticed the same thing with LTT and "Goofy's liberate your appetite" dinner at LTT one is alphabetically at L and one is under G.

I would say the kids part at 9 & over is adult is unfair as a kid of 10 shouldn't be classed as an adult eater I accept the ride part no bother but really kids just seems unfair and most of the restaurants in disney seem to be 12 and over for adult yet meal plan 10 and over

You can get the dining plan with a package (room & tickets) - you must purchase MYW tickets (any amount of days - even 1) for each person in your party. If you get the package, it can be used from the moment you check-in until midnight the day you check-out.

Hope this helps.
