I know WDW has a dining plan but can someone tell me if DL has anything similar? It would make things sooo much easier and how far in advance for priority seating? I think we would like to have a character breakfast and Blue Bayou and I think there is a restaurant in Calif. Advent. that serves pretty good mexican food. TIA...Julie

60 days in advance for Priority Seating.

I've never heard of anyone thinking that Cocina Cucamonga is pretty good. We find them to be "meh, OK", but we're simple folk just ordering cheese enchiladas. Most everyone else tries hard to avoid CC. :)

The meal plan at DLR is *vouchers*. Depending on the length of time you get it for (you do NOT have to get it for the length of your stay), you'll get a certain number of vouchers for character meals, and that can be good b/c if you go for Goofy's Kitchen at *dinner* that maxes out what you paid for that voucher. The rest of the vouchers are just monetary amounts, and you PAY for each dollar of those. It's basically a pre-pay plan. And that is good for some people! There are fans of the DLR dining plan, most definitely.

It's also important to note that if you spend LESS than the amount on the voucher, you do NOT get change back. And if you are buying food that's worth more than the voucher, you get to pay the extra.

i say its a good deal I do like the meal plan I do think it could be better. But this trip we just cant get it again.

I never saw it as a waist or lost any money on it it is more of a pre pay . If you know you are going to some nice places its worth it

I purchase a $50 GC each time I get paid, I think you could also just add $ to an exsisting GC.

You can also purchase vouchers for character meals from places like Ares *very bottom of this page http://arestravel.com/77_DisneylandResort.html
And Get Away Today *under type pick dining http://www.getawaytoday.com/TicketListing.aspx?dest_id=2
**For our meal with Lilo & Stitch next month the vouchers would not save $ so I'll pay for that with a GC.

We budget in our heads and pay for meals at DLR with a credit card that gives money back in one form or another. There is the Disney Visa that we don't have but you get points to spend at Disney. We have an Amazon Visa that gives us money back and we also have a Costco Am. Ex. that gives money back to be used at Costco. We want every purchase we make to go towards something.
I actually don't think we could eat so much that we would go over budget because mostly the portions are big so we share meals or just have a snack for a meal. And breakfast is included in our hotel. We get free water, not soda. We also usually just do counter service but will splurg this time on Steakhouse 55 for our anniversary.

Overall the Dining plan is nothing like WDW's and very few people find it helpful. In fact most people I have heard that did good by the plan were gifted with leftover vouchers from families that paid but didn't use all their vouchers ;)

I think the mexican place you heard about was Rancho in DL. It's a CS tucked over by BTMRR. The food is decent and it has lots of tables set up very comfortably even on warm days. The prices are good too.
