ME w/out tags

I tried searching for this, but the info was all from May-June, so I just wanted to see if this is still correct.

Our trip starts 9/25 & we just decided to fly, so we won't get the ME tags in time. The earlier posts I found suggested claiming the luggage ourselves to avoid having it on the carousel, thus tempting theft. Would it be best to then just take it on the bus with us, or should we hand it over at the ME counter?

Since we won't be receiving the ME info, is there anything I should be aware of?

I have been told that the tags are sent out to arrive one week before your trip, why would you think you are not getting them?
I have also read that you take your tags to the ME desk and they will retreive your luggage for you. I would not worry about theft, but, then again, I never do.

In June I got my info packet and tags about 3 days before we were to leave!!! And last month, I didn't get anything since I booked my DME about 6 days before I left...real last minute trip! So, I wouldn't worry yet about not getting your stuff. If, at the last moment, you don't have your tags, you have a couple of options.
1. Make up some very colorful ribbons for your baggage. I used a wide blanket binding ribbon (about 2" wide) that was turquioise with Pooh all over it. Then I sewed lime green grosgrain ribbon on the side of that making it about 3 1/2" wide. Put one on each bag. THen I cut out some bright yellow strips of construction paper. I put my name, resort name and number of bags on it. THen I put clear stickie contact paper on them to make them stronger. THen, take a photo of your bags with the homemade tags on them. YOu can give the photo to the DME people and they will be able to retrieve them much more easily. If you do it this way you do not have to go to baggage claim for your bags.
However, if this is too much work, you can...

2. Put nothing on your bags..just the normal stuff you would use on any old trip. Then, at MCO go to baggage claim area, retrieve your bags and take them to the DME area yourself. Check in at the desk and then take your bags to the bus with you. They will be put under the bus and will arrive at the resort with you. Then, if your room isn't ready yet, you can store your bags with Bell Services until you can take them to your room.

Be ready though....the day I sat and made all my own tags and such...my packet came!!! I was just finishing them up when the FedEx driver drove up!!!

Thank you :flower:

disneyldwjr, I had read that it's 21 days, but today I've read that they're changing it to one week like you said. We booked through a TA, so she has to forward them to us also.

goofy4tink, I came across one of your earlier posts when I first starting searching, and thought it was a very good idea. :) Then I came across some posts that brought up the theft issue. I think we'll go with your idea though if we don't get the tags. It's our first time to fly, so I'd rather not deal with our luggage if possible.

We're staying at Pop Century for one night on 9/16/05 then going on a DCL cruise the next day. Booked DME from MCO to Pop and have not received and DME information in the mail yet for this.

After our cruise we are staying at Pop Century from 9/24 to 9/27. Booked DME from Pop to MCO for 9/27 and have received the DME information int he mail for that. I double checked confirmation numbers and yes, its for this stay on 9/24 not the early one. Really didn't expect any DME stuff for this.

So, anything can happen as far as receiving or not receiving the DME information it seems. We'll see if it comes.
