ME tags question

Okay, here's the deal....we are flying with Southwest (which I understand is not a ME participating airline). Therefore, do I still need to put my tags on my luggage even though ME will not be getting the luggage off the carousel for me upon my arrival or checking my luggage when I leave Orlando? Any information is appreciated.

All airlines that fly into Orlando International Airport "participate" in Magical Express. If you afix your yellow Magical Express luggage routing tags to your checked bags at your home airport, Disney will intercept your bags behind the scenes at Orlando Airport, and your bags will "magically appear" in your resort room after you check in. It sometimes takes several hours for the luggage to be delivered, so bring a carry-on with anything you'll need in the first few hours after you arrive.

The participating airlines list only applies to the day when you travel back home. You can ride back to the aiport on a Magical Express coach in any case, but if you're traveling on some airlines, you can check your bags and get your boarding passes right at your resort. Otherwise, your bags will travel with you on the coach, and you'll check in at the airport. (In either case, there are no yellow Magical Express luggage routing tags for the return trip.)

Thanks....that makes sense. Now another question along the same lines....we won't be arriving in Orlando until 10:10 p.m.....if we decide to retrieve our luggage ourselves do we still need to use the yellow tags? I'm afraid we will be so exhausted by the time we get to our room that we won't want to wait for our bags that late at night. What do you suggest?

If you want to retrieve your own bags at the baggage claim, don't use the yellow routing tags. If you use the tags, your bags will be intercepted before thay go to baggage claim.

If you go to baggage claim, it's quite likely that you'll be on a later motor coach. You'll probably arrive at your resort a half hour or so later. You'll have to handle your luggage in the airport and at the resort. And it's appropriate to tip the motor coach driver who will load and unoad your bags. If your get luggage assistance at the resort, a tip is again appropriate.

For our next WDW trip, we're arriving at MCO around 10:00 p.m. I will use the DME luggage transfers. My plan is to bring a carry-on with everything that we need until the next morning. Then, the next day, they can deliver our main luggage to our room. (I don't want anyone delivering luggage at midnight or 2:00 a.m.) I asked a DME CM about this, and she said it's fine. At check-in, I should just let the front desk or bell services know that this is what I want.

I really like the idea of going from the arrival gate directly to the Disney Welcome Center and right onto the next motor coach to our resort. And I like the idea of not having to bother with our luggage at the airport or at the resort.
