Hi,

I have a friend that rented points for a Nov vacation, they have decided not to rent a car and take advantage of ME. When she called to order the luggage tags, MS told her the person who she rented the points from needed to make the request. The reservation is in her name??? Any experiences with this??? She is currently contacting the DVC member to make the arrangements.

Thanks,
Bonnie :wizard:

The rules just changed recently where only DVC members are allowed to call MS. The DVC member has to add the dining plan and magical express. The renter can no longer call to confirm reservations. You will see several posts on these boards regarding the changes.

Does the member have to call MS for DME? I know the member has to call to add the dining plan, but that's because DDP can only be done through MS.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the renter could call DME directly...that they didn't need the DVC owner for that because it's available for all onsite guests.

She does NOT have to call MS for this. As long as she has the reservation confirmation, she can call the ME number and make her own ME reservation. The only thing she can't do is add DDP. For that, the member will have to call MS and add it to the reservation, but it must be paid for at time of check-in.

Actually they need to give the information to the DVC member. I just called MS and they said if a person booked through a DVC member magical express will tell them to call the DVC member since they MUST go through the DVC MS and add it to the reservation.

hmmmm, not the information I was given quite some time ago, but perhaps that has changed too.

It seems that they are trying everything they can to discourage renting.....

Thanks for the information...I had heard about the rule changes..needing the tags after Nov 1 or no riding the ME. I am happy we always rent a car...less to worry about.

Back in May when I called DME to book I was told if I booked through MS I had to book ME through them.

My understanding is that MS has to add the ME option to the DVC reservation - and that the owner has to request MS to do so. But once that is done, the renter can then call the DME to make changes, confirm, etc.

Best wishes -

When ALL the computers were down the other day and I thought it was just DVCl I asked the MS CM if she could give me the DME number, since she couldn't add it. She said it wouldn't do any good even if they were up and running because it has to be done through MS from now on.

I really don't believe it is a matter of discouraging renting on this one, just a matter of bookkeeping. Regardless if the stay is rented, the ressies are in the DVC members name and the rentee is a guest of the reservation holder. Only the reservation holder can book Magical Express now. I booked for a friend of mine this November, but I had to call MS and add ME to the reservation once my friend got her flight information. MS still mails the ME confirmation and tags directly to your guest/rentee, as they did so recently for my friend.

According to a CM I spoke to recently, the biggest issue with DVC regarding renting are the people who had literally 1,000s of points transferred to their accounts (which, according to member guidelines from day 1, cannot be associated with a monetary exchange, even though we all know that happened, and still happens, on a regular basis) and then turned around and rented them out to others (mostly non-DVC members) for a profit. They say that's why the reinforcing of the one transfer per member notice and the "crackdown" on renting came out at the same time.
