Ok, so I'm going with a friend to Disney next month. I will be flying there and she will be driving (since she lives in Florida), and we would have liked if she could still pick me up at the airport and we ride together to the resort but was wondering if I can still use the ME luggage tags and still have them get my bags and not have to wait around and do it myself... So can they still get your bags w/o you being on the bus? I would have assumed yes but I would feel better hearing it from someone else that does know for sure. Thanks.

No, sorry, this can't be done. Disney specifically states that DME is NOT a luggage-only service. How will they know? Your bus voucher has a bar code, and is scanned as you board the bus. The computer cross-checks this with your luggage, which also has bar codes on the DME tags.

There's been some controversy and speculation on this board about this subject. What I told you is what we've been told, but we've never had any first-hand reports of not riding the bus from MCO to the resort but still having the luggage be automatically delivered.

If you were in a party of several people on the same reservation, only one person from that party needs to ride the bus, but ALL of that party's luggage will be delivered by DME.

Thanks for the reply...I didn't know there was a bus voucher also so that does make sense that you would have to ride the bus. Eh, no big deal though...still works for me.

You just tempt me so bad. I have had first hand experience of people riding in a car service and their bags being delivered to WDW with no hitch. In the past two months I have waited with probably 10 families for their bags. I know of 4 to the cruise lines and the other 5 or 6, not really sure of the count, to the resorts. In each case when everyone is getting ready to say oh-oh. no bags, I have asked if they tagged them with the yellow Disney tags. They have said yes! I tell them to go to the airlines office and tell them that you put the tags on the bag and see what they say. In every case the airline employee has told the passenger their bags are at Disney. Also in every case the passenger has returned to MCO with luggage if they did not put it on the RAC.

I can't understand how the cruise line passengers get their bags over to the Port because they have to pay for the transportation if they want the Disney transfer. If they take a car service their luggage is still delivered to the ship. This has been verified because the luggage is not around when the passenger goes to the cruise ship, but is with the passenger when they are picked up at the cruise ship.

Now Cleve, if you want to make a test so you can pass out first hand information, I will make your family a deal. The next time you come to Orlando for a vacation you put the yellow tags on your bags. I will make sure you are met at the escalator and taken to your resort free of charge. We will than see if your bags are delivered without you having to go to the DME counter. Of course if they aren't that will be taken care of also.

Didn't know I was tempting you! I'd never read this first-hand reporting on THIS subject before, from you or anyone else. Now I have.

Edd, this sounds great. Sincerely, thank you for the offer. However, I suspect that by November 2007 there will be much more info available on this subject, which would render this test moot.

But if the facts are still up in the air, I'd love to take you up on your offer to make this test a reality. Jersey Week 2007 here I come, and riding in style. :thumbsup2

I will look forward to November, 2007. We will re-visit the idea a few weeks prior to you coming down here. It would be a pleasure.

Behind the scenes secret (requires associates degree in logistics to understand):

Failure to deliver yellow tagged baggage to the resort as quickly as possible, which means independently of of the guest's boarding the bus, will cause baggage delay glitches, however rare, to seem much bigger than they are.

Also it requires more manual baggage handling to synchronize dispatch of baggage out of the airport with the guests' boarding the bus compared with not synchronizing.
