Hello,

I have read that some people transfer their own luggage to the bus. :moped: Is that frowned upon? Has anyone done it? What is easier?

Thaks for the advise,

Heidi

Yes, some people do this. Is it frowned upon? Only by some of us who post in this forum. :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

Seriously, it's not frowned upon by Disney or DME, it's an option available to you.

So your question is, is it easier to get your own luggage or get it delivered to your room. Well, you decide which is easier:

a) walking to baggage claim, waiting for your bags, lugging them to the DME line, lugging them to the bus queue, lugging them out to the bus, lugging them from the bus to your resort main lobby check in line,

OR

b) not lugging your checked bags at all, and seeing them inside your resort room after they "magically appear" there. Oh yeh, and not delayng yourself by unnecessarily waiting at baggage claim (also known as "getting to your resort sooner").

Easy answer as to which is easier.

The question FOR YOU is, which is better FOR YOU?

Some people are nervous about whether their luggage will get lost by DME. I think on these boards we've read about maybe one incident of LOST luggage (over 2 MILLION people have used DME so far, so that's about 4 MILLION pieces of luggage through the system), but even with that we don't know if it was lost by the airline or DME. Airlines lose thousands of bags each year. DME can't come close to that. Heck, airlines DELAY 10,000 bags A DAY!

Some people are nervous about their checked bags arriving 2 or 3 hours after checking in. This never bothered me, because no matter where I fly I ALWAYS pack for the first 24 hours in a carry-on, just in case the airline delays my luggage. It's just a smart way to fly, a smart way to protect yourself against a slow or bad start to your vacation. Packing PJs, toiletries, medications, a complete change of clothes, and bathing suits takes up VERY little space. Try it for youself.

Some people feel they must wait in the room for their bags to arrive. They don't! DME bags get delivered inside your room whether you're there or not. When my bags were delivered to my room, I didn't even know about it because I was in the pool with my kids enjoying the start of our vacation!!!

So letting DME deliver your bags is obviously EASIER. But the question you have to ask yourself is whether or not it is the BETTER option for you. Some people like me enjoy the convenience and ease, and other people want to be in more control.

Either way, you'll have a great WDW vacation. ENJOY!

You can get your own luggage if you choose, just don't attach the yellow luggage tags. When you land get your bags from the carosel then go check in at the ME desk. It is totally acceptable and not frowned upon, the driver will load it in the luggage compartment under the bus. We tipped the driver for this service.

It's not easier, I did it because my flight arrived at 10pm and I was the solo adult with my 2dds. For me it was easier to grab the bags as we have always done than to carry on what we needed for the evening and or have a ME luggage delivery in the middle of the night.

If I were using ME during the day or even early evening I would definately use the luggage delivery portion of ME. As PP's have said although it takes 3-4 hours for your luggage to arrive you don't have to wait for it.

It's definitely fine to stow luggage in the bus's compartment. We did that for a large carryon--as did other passengers. I have to say that ME worked great for us. We were on the bus to POFQ before we'd have gotten our suitcase at baggage claim, we were in the hotel room an hour after landing, and by the time we got back to our room from the park the suitcase had been delivered.

We have brought our own luggage to ME several times with zero problems. It is very simple for us, especially when you fly SW since your luggage p/u is very close to the ME bus area. I am the type of person that wants to know right away if my bags are "lost" or delayed and I want to know AT the airport, not back at my resort where I am at the mercy of the resort and ME staff. I would not be able to not worry for the couple hours while my bags were "magically appearing" in my room. We just tip the driver when he unloads our bags and it is really easy.

If we are getting to MCO early in the AM then I would probably let ME take care of it since I know we will not be getting into our room anytime soon. Let them take care of it and deliver it when our room is ready while were haveing a grand time in the parks.

Last June we got in very late, after 11 we did pick our luggage up ourselves so we have what we need without having to wait for it. Plus we like to unpack as soon as we get to our room and settle in right away.
