After calling to confirm that ME has our airline info since it wasn't listed in our packet, I found out that the 4 yellow tags (1 for each of us) are not to be cut in 1/2 (like is says to do on the back on the tag)!

Our family of 4 is flying on SW this coming Friday morning
How do I handle any bags over 4? Of course, SW, allows 2 per person and that's what I was planning on taking.

Any advise is appreciated!

Not a problem. When you check in with DME, just give them the claim checks for the untagged luggage (I think they ask for the description too) and they'll get those as well.

Just so that everyone knows....it does not say to cut them in half, on the backside of the tags. Those are 'old' instructions from when the tags came attached to each other...each passenger got two tags, so you were supposed to rip them down the middle. IF you cut them in half, as they are now, the tag will be too small to fit the handle properly. They are supposed to move freely, around the handle.

As noted already, just give the baggage claim receipts, a bag description, and you're good to go.

Actually they DO say to cut them in half. However when I looked at mine, it didn't look right to do that, so I called DME to make sure. And they said those are the old instructions, and they aren't sure why they are still being printed like that, but to not cut them.

You must have got an old batch. The ones I am looking at do not say to cut them in half. Weird. Good thing you caught that!

I apologize...I worded that incorrectly. The old tags used to be pulled apart, hence the directions some see. I forgot to put that in my post. AGain, I apologize.

We got our luggage tags a couple of weeks ago, and they also say to tear them in half. I didn't think this would work correctly so I'm really glad I found this thread before I followed the instructions! I was also planning to check two pieces of luggage, so I'm thankful for the answer concerning that as well :)
