ME - claiming luggage? and can we have it transported even if we rent?

We are thinking of our options and may want to rent a car, regardless of staying onsite.

With ME, do they deliver your luggage to the resort check-in, or to a room? (I presume the resort check-in desk, since rooms aren't really assigned yet, right?)

If we rent a car (but don't want to deal with juggling luggage while in the rental car lines) can we still have ME deliver our bags?

No you can't just send your luggage and go in a rental car also your bags usually arrive to the resort after you do so you will be checked in when they deliver to your room.

However, if you want to rent a car, one of you could go rent the car while the rest of the group takes Magical Express. That way the luggage will be moved. Just don't use the yellow tags for the person renting the car.

This only works if you have fewer than the maximum bags per person.

For example. If there are two of you and you only have two checked bags total, then you can do this.

If there are three of you and you only have four checked bags total.

If there are four of you and you only have six checked bags total.

Your luggage will be transported separately and arrive in your room 1-3 hours after you check in. Your luggage will not be transported unless you check in and ride the ME bus, a scan of your voucher verifys this.

If you don't ride the ME bus your luggage will not be transported. If you decide to rent a car do not use the yellow ME bag tags and pick up the luggage at the carosel like you alway have.

Another option is to have one member of the party rent the car and everyone else ride the ME bus. Just don't put any of the bags under the name of the person renting the car.

You could do the ME thing, then rent a car from the Alamo/National desk at the Dolphin after you're settled in your room.

Is the Alamo rental desk the only one onsite?

At the Dolphin, Alamo/National is/was the only choice (as of September 2004 when I used it).

I think there might be more choices at the Car Care Center and the CCC has longer operating hours, but it requires a shuttle ride to get there, and you'd probably have to schedule it. At the Dolphin, you can use WDW transportation, whether it's walking from EPCOT, boating from there or MGM, or busing there from any other parks.

Luggage gets delivered directly to your room, DME pre-tips bell services so you don't have to be in your room.

A message is sent to your resort when you check in at the DME counter at MCO. The resort will then assign you an available room. In the event a room isn't ready bell services will automatically keep your luggage until your room is ready. Luggage rarely beats you to your resort but your luggage doesn't go near the check in desk.
