I had an interesting encounter yesterday with a new bartender at the local watering hole I frequent.
She said they planned the "trip of a lifetime" to Disney World last year and will NEVER be back. She kept commenting about the bus taking so long to get her luggage; it finally dawned on me, she was talking about ME.
She said that she was told by the TA that she would get her bags by 3 p.m. They checked in at 2:00 pm and their room is ready. She said she waited until 3:00 pm, no bags. She called the front desk and insisted her bags were supposed to be in her room by 3:00 pm. She told them why she needed their bags, and they said they would get back to her immediately. She said, "can you believe the nerve of these people, we FINALLY got our bags at 3:40 pm."
I was shocked; I commented that she actually received her bags in 1 hour, and 40 minutes; that is less than the standard time of 3 to 4 hours.
I told her she may have misunderstood the TA. The luggage delivery is three hours after check-in, not 3 p.m. She looked at me kinda dumbfounded; and I asked why so insistent on getting your luggage.
Because her ANTI-SEIZURE MEDICATION was in her checked bag. And on top of it, she insisted they get the entire family's bags, just to get her medication.
She said, to add insult to injury, they "seemed" to blow off the incident, only giving them one day of free fast passes for the entire family and they sent up a gift basket with ears for her two children for their inconvenience.
I was like, are you serious - what would you have done if the airline lost your luggage and it took 24 hours for it to get to you. I explained to her what really happened.
I said, most likely, since you were re-miss in placing something in a checked bag that you really should have had on you - they most likely called a CM from guest services immediately, who was delivering baggage to other rooms that had arrived around noon, to go downstairs and sort through an entire room of baggage waiting to be sorted.... then ran the bags up to your room, inconveniencing other people.
Then they dispatched someone down to the gift shop to get ears, and called someone to get the fast passes.
On top of it, I said I guarantee you that if your luggage had been lost by the airline, they would have been on the phone to find it, and if it was indeed lost, they would be locating it for you. If it was delayed, they have arranged for you to be transported to a local clinic where you could see a doctor to get more medication until they could have located your bag....
Boy, I was hot.......it amazes me the stupid things people do when they travel and then blame it on everyone else but themselves.
Believe me, she did seem somewhat embarassed about it, but decided ultimately that Disney was just not for them..... oh well.
