MDE question/concern.........

As an old (and overly cautious?) fella, I was concerned when the MDE asked me to tie in a card.

Is there any reason why I SHOULD be concerned/cautious/wary? Does everyone do this and have there been any negatives reported?

Thanks

You mean a Credit Card?

You can use your Magic Band to make purchases in the parks. They should also ask for a pin (should set this up in MDE) when making purchases. So nobody can just find a Magic Band on the ground and go purchase something.

also a super easy way to use mobile ordering at quick service restaurants. I have never had a problem

You don't have to do it.
We don't.

If you are concerned don't do it.
Not necessary.
I haven't allowed charging on my MB in a couple years.
It just gives you extra perks like ...
- Mobile Ordering (which I did last week)
- Booking ADRs on the spot (which I did last week)

1. None related to issues with security. Only you know if you have issues with watching your spending with such a set up
2. Nope
3. Nope

You don't have to. We always do for convenience.
With a credit card attached, it makes it easy to charge from the magic band. I don't have to bring my credit cards/money to the parks.
I can do mobile ordering for many QS restaurants. A really nice feature if the lines are long, and just convenient if they aren't.

Technically, when you charge with your MB you are not charging to that card on file, you are charging to your resort folio, and they are charging to the card that they have on file. Now, if you have a card on file in MDE, they will ask if that's the one you want to use, and it can all be seamless. Also, the card in MDE is there to guarantee ADRs and such. As mentioned, a PIN is set up to prevent unauthorized charging.

My credit card is saved to a number of websites I shop at so it being linked to MDE is not worrisome for me.

If you don't want it on there then you don't have to but if you want to do online check in or be able to use your magic band to charge purchases then its required.

I don't know what their architecture is but it is entirely possible, and even probable, that the same processor they use in the resorts is who they use online. It is extremely unlikely Disney is their own processor. In that case whether you use the card at the parks, in the resorts, or store it online doesn't really matter. The processor has all the relevant information making you no more likely to be breached if it is stored online than if it was just used at WDW itself.

I’ve never heard of Disney having a cc breach. I didn’t do it when they didn’t require it for online checkin, but now that it’s required for it, I put a card on there. I rarely do room charging and haven’t yet been in the parks since they started mobile ordering, AND I’m DVC so I don’t have a balance to pay at checkin...so ultimately it’s rather silly to make me do it, but...

However, its safety isn’t something I worry about. I’ve had more fraud directly though my banks and insurance company than through any normal website.
