When we went to Disney last September we really enjoyed using the MDE app. After we got home I went to open it and check wait times because I was missing Disney and it said my phone wasn't "compatible w this version." My phone is not that old. Am I going to need a new phone before we go next year?

That's true, I could pull up the website to adjust fastpasses, I suppose. Certainly not as convenient as just clicking on the app, though. :earboy2: And you can't check wait times, etc. I'm hoping something updates between now and then and it will work.

You need at least Android 5.1 in your phone, I know because I changed mine recently and made sure it worked for our next trip.

I have a four-year-old phone (iPhone 5s) and it works fine (AFAIK!) for me. And as PP said it is probably the OS that matters more than the hardware (update!)

Some androids aren't supported or updated for very long. So even if it's only a couple years old it may not get an update. If you don't know what model you own, you can either check on your provider's website (verizon lists it for sure) or take it in to a carrier's retail location. Have them check to see if there's a system update for you. This is actually really important for multiple reasons, not just for apps. They provide better security and to patch bugs and exploits discovered by users. If it cannot be further updated, and if it's more than 3 or 4 years old I suspect that's the case, you may need to purchase a new phone. Androids are just not supported by the manufacturer and carrier as long as they actually last for the consumer, it's sad.

iPhones are supported far longer than comparable Androids are. That's because apple has more control over software updates than the other OEMs do. Also why they cost more but it's beneficial for the consumer in the long run.

Is this a new requirement? This phone worked in September.

Have you updated to the latest operating software on the phone? Apps are usually updated to work on the newer software so they will not work if you do not keep the phone updated. I call this the Apple Curse. Apple will constantly update IOS and causes older phones to run slower which in turns makes you not want to update which then causes apps not to work. They force you to pretty much get a new phone every year and a half.

My old S4 mini runs an older version of Android, and I won't mess with it. I just use MDE in a Chrome browser, instead of the app.

Yes, I've checked for updates and there aren't any. :( We got this phone in December 2015, so it's approaching 2 years old. I guess if nothing changes w the updates I'll get a new one before we go.

Ummm...Samsung Galaxy something or other. :)
You really need to find out what "something or other" means.
If it is a Galaxy S5 or newer (released 3.5 years ago) it can be updated to at least Android 6.0 which will run the MDE app.
If it is a Galaxy S4 or older (released 4.5 years ago) it cannot be updated to the Android 5.1 minimum required by the MDE app.

I took the case off and the back says Galaxy Core Prime.

Never heard of it, but a quick search shows it should be able to be upgraded to Android 5.1.
Go into the phone settings and scroll down to find "About phone" or "About device". In there it should show your current Android version.

I'd never used MDE before, but when I went to install the app two months ago, Google Store told me I couldn't get it because of the Android version in my phone, and that I needed at least Android 5.1 to be able to use the app.
I was looking for a new phone, so I made sure I got one with Android 6, just in case!

It says android version 4.4.4. Tried to click software update and it says the latest updates have already been installed. Grrr. I'm going to have my friends tech savvy husband look at it sometime.

I agree with @AngiTN

Just create a shortcut on your home screen to the MDE website. It works better than the app IMO anyways.

Unless you're eligible for a phone upgrade from your provider at this point no way I'd be wasting money on a new phone for one app - especially a glitch heavy app such as MDE.
