Hi there,

We are back to Disney in October for our first time in two years--woo hoo!:cheer2:

DS is now 3 and is 110% Cars obsessed. I know McQueen and Mater are in Hollywood Studios. Where are they, and are they there all the time? We want to make sure we show up at the right time. We will have one very happy little boy!

Thanks!

Heidi

We were there in late June and there is a permanent photo shoot for them in the back of the park where the toy story toy shop used to be. We thought it was so neat because you don't have to wait in lines and deal with the characters coming out and going back at just about the time it's your turn. Seems to me it was an easy walk out of the Muppets Show--which you'll definitely want to see:thumbsup2

It's almost directly next to Mama Melrose's. My son loves Mater, as well, and we walked out of lunch at Mama Melrose's straight to Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater.

The two cars are indeed there permanently (as permanent as anything at Disney is...in this case, they aren't brought out for signings and then go backstage after but "live" in Luigi's Garage at all times) but Luigi's Garage isn't open from DHS open to close. If you try to go in the evening there is a cover over the garage and the cars aren't available to take pics with.

(I know this because we went 'round there in the evening during our May trip so we could get a pic with our daughter with the cars when she didn't have to wear a poncho, and they were "sleeping".)

Right now the hours are 10:00 am to 6:00 pm but either check the events handout at the park on the day that you go or keep an eye on:

and from that page, click on "Studios" at the top to see the current entertainment schedule for that park.

For DS (2.5 yrs old), this was one of the highlights of our trip. I don't know the hours that Lightning and Mater are available for photos, but I don't think they do it at night. DH took our older kids to Star Tours, and I took the little guy to see the cars. Here is a pic:

Just so you know, the cars make engine revving sounds. This scared my DS a little because he wasn't expecting it.

Good thread, my 4 yr old son loves them as well & we missed them last year.

Great picture btw.:thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! We have ADR at Brown Derby early afternoon one day, so we should be there for McQueen and Mater. I did not know the backdrop was Luigi's garage--very cool.

Good to know about the revving sound.

Definitely great picture with McQueen and Mater--thanks for sharing!

This was the highlight of my oldest son's trip last time. This time though my youngest is looking forward to it. He has hit the "CARS" fan club about the same time my oldest did...20months. We came across them after leaving the Muppetts 3D.

Thank you so much for this bit of information! My son love, love, loves Cars and will be so thrilled to get to see them up close!
