We just returned from WDW last night, flying home from MCO. They announced while in security line that children under 12 don't have to remove their shoes. When I asked if this is new since we have flown many times and kids always had to in past, he said it's a pilot program to see how it works out and may become permanent. He didn't say, and I didn't think to ask, how long the pilot will last.

Just wanted to mention this for families with young childen that are flying soon. You still would have to remove them at your home airport but not from MCO.

It is the TSA. Today's experience may not be replicated tomorrow.

And for those of you who think the TSA really does something....read the above. If you wanted to hide something from the TSA you just put the explosives in your kid's shoes. More proof the shoe removal is "theater" not real security

true, I've had tiny bottles of hand lotion and sanitizer in my purse for a year that's been back & forth to FL several times and they don't see it.

People trying to do harm will continue to find a way around security. If they're trying to bring down a whole plane, they obviously have no qualms about putting something in a child's shoe.

Flying home from Portugal in the summer they flagged my wife's bag claiming it had a large amount of liquid in it. (It didn't, but the women in FRONT of us had a few bottles of water)

They emptied out the bag, they turned it inside out, they checked everything twice, then said -- oh we must have made a mistake --- while the other woman disappeared.
