McDonalds Charging for Condiments!

I spend way too much money there hitting the drive-thru when the girls want a quick snack. I won't keep doing it though if they're going to be that stingy. It's sad news but this could end up saving me a bundle in the end.

our mcd's keeps the napkins behind the counter- they give you like 2, which I always tell them with two small boys two napkins just won't cut it......

I always hate that they charge for sauces. Isn't ketchup also a sauce? I hate ketchup, I love BBQ sauce on my fries and burgers. I never understood the difference. I go to Wendy's where they don't charge for that stuff.

We never eat at McD's itself. We drive thru and come home where we have plenty of napkins, catsup (my ten year old should own stock) and other necessities. Even if my kids want to play in the Playland - I order one large drink for them to come and sip on while they play, then we leave and drive thru after. They never want to eat their food while we are there anyway- they'd rather play (duh!) and this way I am not trying to juggle three Happy meal boxes and three kids on my way out to the van.

For years I have been amazed at the number of people who grab a handful of ketchup, sugar etc and put it in their purses or pockets. I don't think it's a good idea to charge, but maybe they are tired of people taking it. I do know of one locally owned restaurant that had to take sugar and sweeteners off the table last year because so many people were taking it to use at home.

Our McDonalds does not give anything at the drive through even napkins, I always feel so sorry for the people just passing through, when I pick up from the drive through I have to ask for napkins and ketchup which they will only give you one napkin and 1 pack of ketchup for each 'meal' ordered and no they will not give you extra. If you order a salad you have to pay for the dressing, if you order nuggets they charge for bbq sauce or honey. It is completely ridiculous and what really drives me crazy is when I order a number '3' and the sign says 4.69 +tax and when I go pay they charge me 4.99 +tax it

Wondering how long that will last. We have two burger restaurants in our area. One gives unlimited fries with their burgers the other charged. These restaurants have rather large burgers and they are good but they charge about $9 for their burgers. Well guess what? About a month ago the one who charged for the fries now has a big sign out front saying "free fries with our burgers." Evidently they were losing business to the other restaurant. I won't pay for ketchup. In this economy you cannot nit pick people. I do agree you can limit the amount you give out.

Too many people abusing the system with the free condiments.

It's not just the customers though. Almost everytime I order takeout(not just McD's) they throw handfuls of ketchup in the bag without my asking. I don't use ketchup and find it extremely wasteful. Most of the time I don't even know until I get home and open the bag to find 10 or more ketchup packs inside. All they have to do is ask...at least it would cut down on the waste. Personally I think they could do this with all the "throw in" items(napkins, utensils, salt, pepper, sauces, etc). A lot of time I'm just getting stuff to take home, where I already have all that stuff.

I guess this will cut their costs due to the people who are getting condiments at fast food restaurants and stockpiling them for use at home or on vacation--or in kids lunches?

I use them in my kids lunches but I don't grab extra in order to do that. We get fast food once a week & its usually drive-thru. I always end up with an extra ketchup packet or two. I just keep them for kids lunches. Its either that or the trash.

I was in London 23 years ago and was charged for each packet of ketchup. I was shocked. It was equal to about 7 cents in American money. One day I walked into a little grocery store and and bought a small bottle of ketchup that I carried in my backpack from then on out.

I remember when I asked for ketchup, the McD's employee said, "What? Tomato sauce?" Most people out there put vinegar on their fries which are called "chips" and chips are called "crisps" and cookies are called "biscuits." I had to really think before saying the wrong thing.

Here, if you want any condiments, they come in the nugget sauce type containers. You pay 10Euro cents for each one. The ketchup is vinegar based and nasty. I prefer my Heinz.

This would make more sense to me....you get a few for free and then you have to pay for extras.

Our local McDonald's still have condiments at the table with the drink machines, so you can get as much as you want for free.

If this really is a trend with McD, we will just take our fast food cravings elsewhere.

In this competitive market, with people cutting budgets and not eating out as much, this isn't going to help them.

The McDonalds near me has a sign that says that they are charging for extra condiments. They give you a few with your meal, but if you want more, you are charged for the extra.

I did not find anything on Google indicating they are charging for ketchup just extra sauces.

This really annoys me.Locally they will give you one packet of sauce per meal and charge .25 for each additional.The thing I get mad at is when you go through the drive through-90% of the time they forget to put the sauce in the bag.They do this ALL THE TIME so they must not be loosing too much money on the extras.

My daughter loves ketchup. dumps it on everything. she needs5 or 6 for her meal. the rest of us, maybe 2 or 3 per meal. so for my family of 5 we need 17-20 packets. If they charged us a dime per packet it would add 1.70-2.00 to our bill. I will go somewhere else if they do that here.

I hope they don't start doing this at my local McDonalds. If they do then my family is in trouble because we use a lot of the ketchup packets. I guess they are trying to deter people from taking handfuls of them.

Yep in Europe it's the norm. I remember visiting my then fiance where he lived in Holland and not having enough ketchup and saying to him that I was gonna grab some more when he reached in his pocket and gave me 1 Euro and I said no babe you don't have to pay me I'll bring you back some for free and his reply to me was I'm not paying you I'm giving you money cuz here they charge for ketchup. My jaw just about hit the floor. Sure enough I forked over the Euro and they gave me two of the biggest packets of kethcup I'd ever seen. Hey maybe they'll also start charging you when using their bathroom like they do in Europe too. If it means cleaner public bathrooms I'll glady give up the extra .30 cents.

And that's just my 2 cents.

Haven't charged us anything - yet!- here in chester county, PA.
However, I went thru the drive-thru last weekend and ordered a kids meal with nuggets, apple slices, and an order of fried. I asked for ketchup and on the drivethru display (where they show your order) is said ONE PACKET KETCHUP!
