Mayo in instant potatoes?

Have you ever mixed mayo into instant mashed potatoes?

No but I have used Philadelphia cream cheese, quark, yogurt, sour cream, or whipped cream in mashed potatoes, instant or not. Normally I only use instant when we are camping.

The dairy additions make the taters more fluffy.

My dad's ex-wife would use mayo in real mashed potatoes. She said it made them creamier. I personally think sour cream would be a better ingredient since it's a common baked potato topping. I would never put mayo on a baked potato.

She is correct.

I can’t speak to instant, but I’m sure the premise is the same. My mother taught me. Real potatoes, peeled, diced, boiled. Russets or golds. A stick of butter cut up. Milk. Mash with masher then get out your hand mixer. Add 1 or 2 TB of Dukes (do NOT use a sweet mayo) mayo and continue with hand mixer and salt. Best mashed potatoes evah. It’s not about tasting the mayo, it’s about creaming them up.

Sour cream works if you are adverse to mayo. It’s really about creaminess.

I can see where warming up the milk would be a help too, but I’m a lazy mom dot com.

YES to Instant Mashed!!! Make mine with chicken broth, with a little butter,salt and pepper and sour cream, delish!!

I remember when I was a teenager I had a job bagging groceries. It was around Thanksgiving and I bagged so many boxes of instant potatoes, I said to the cashier I can't believe how many people use instant potatoes for their Thanksgiving dinner, how sad it was for their families... I'm sure I was probably pretty obnoxious about it too. The cashier said 'I use instant, I don't know any other way ' I had to go remove my foot from my mouth
