I am going to do some final number crunching today, but am thinking of booking BLT for last week of January of 2010. We have a Feb use year, so I have 160 points right now. When I call to book, do I just say I want to borrow 41 points from my 2010 points to finish the reservation? Am I allowed to only borrow some points from my next years allotments ( Ie 2010) or do I have to borrow the whole 160? Also, if I choose, can I bank the remaining points from 2010 that I don't use into 2011? Meaning, am I allowed to take my points from one year, and borrow from them to add onto a previous year, and then also bank them into the next year? Does this make any sense??

Yes! You are correct.

You will also be able to borrow from '12 to make your next reservation with your banked '10 points and current year '11 points for your '11 UY. That reservation can be made for 2/1/11-1/31/12 and can be booked as early as 3/1/10 at your home resort.

Once you begin making your arrangements and get the room and dates you prefer, MS will know that you need to borrow against the following use year. This is what happened with my reservation for later this year, the MS rep even gave me the balance for what I have to use next year.

As for banking what you have leftover for 2010, to use in 2011, keep in mind that once you bank those points, they can't be recaptured if you change your mind for trips next year. Also- you will probably have to wait to bank them until you are actually in that 2010 use year. I hope this helps!!

As noted, you can use the 160 2009 points and they will borrow only what you need at the time from your 2010 UY. Realize that you are putting yourself in the worst possible scenario if you have to make any changes since you will likely lose all 201 points if you can't make the trip. You will need to be closed to borrow the points, if not, you can reserve part of the days and leave the rest until you can borrow. Your guide might be able to help if needed.

Thanks for all of the clarifying! We weren't paying attention when we bought about which Use Year we were getting. We almost always take our trips the last week of January. So a Feb Use Year is pretty bad for us. When I realized my mistake, and called our guide, he agreed and said they would just send out new contracts. HOWEVER, Disney had just sent our official paperwork, and it was filed at the court house ( It was past the 10 day recind thing too) So we either had to sell this contract, and buy new, or just deal with this Use Year of Feb. I hope we will be okay. We have only had to cancel one trip in 10 years, and that was because financially we didn't have enough for a room, which now with DVC, that will all be taken care of in advance. Plus I think I'd figure a way not to lose all of those points, and just go:) I also try to tell myself that if something catastophic happens ( HEAVEN FORBID!!!!) than losing points at DVC will be the least of my worries! I'd still love to have a different UY, but am so happy that we bought DVC, that I didn't want to complain or worry too much to DH, for fear he'd say "Well maybe we shouldn't have bought at all. Or Can't you just be thrilled still and not sweat the small stuff?" So just send pixie dust my way:)

With planning you should be OK unless disasters happen. Do try to stay away from banked/borrowed points as much as possible so you'll have some options if you have to cancel a trip say 4 months out. If you're guide knew your plans and sold you Feb anyway, I'd be looking for a new guide.

Have fun on your trip. Remember, if you find that you had to cancel, and you were beyond your banking deadline, you could always try to rent the reservation (or offer the points for rent and change the reservation), or

I am sure that time of year would not be an issue to find someone willing to go!!! I have a UY that is not the best for my vacations but have enough family members who love to visit WDW, that there is ALWAYS someone who would go on a moments notice!!!
