I am bedridden at the moment - sick pneumonia. I do not, have not, ever used a laptop PC - obviously I am now. Except I have an issue.

Is there any flipping way to keep the laptop from making me SO hot? Tried a pillow - no good - book - nope. Laid it next to me and I am just not comfortable typing.

I hate the heat to begin with.:upsidedow So,any ideas? :flower3:

I work so it isnt just for pleasure (DISing)....Help

I think they make these lap pillows for this reason. They are like a pillow on the bottom, about the size of your lap. And they have a hard little table like surface on the top.

Not really they get hot and the vent is on the bottom. If you are working on your bed don't go to sleep and let it running sitting on your bed, that is a good way for it to overheat because the vent is on the bottom and the bed will block it.

I have seen at Best Buy and other places- there is a pillow/hard surface that you put your laptop on and it has fans built into it. I don't have one, so don't know if they are run on batteries. I have seen them at walmart so they can't be that expensive.

Thank you for posting this question; I was wondering about lap desks for using a laptop in bed. I would never have thought about looking for one with a fan; I almsot bought one I saw at a chain bookstore, but now I understand that it's made for books, not laptops. Will take a look at Wal Mart! :thumbsup2

We have one of these. I picked it up at Target. Works pretty well. Better than hot thighs. It has a fan on the bottom of it, and it plugs into the USB port for power. It does help quite a bit.

Feel better soon!

Thanks! I will look into that fan table thing! :)

I just had to buy a brand new laptop (bought an Asus) and you know what? It does not get hot at all--not even warm! AND there is not a fan running either!

Good luck and get well soon!!!

Aw man! Well I didn't lost the actually chill pad, I lost the cord that makes the fan work in between many moves from college to back home. I thought I found it before, but no luck. I'll keep looking.

Really most of them are exactly the same. I didn't notice that one was sold out. Any brand should do the trick for ya!

Feel better soon! :flower3:

For the time being how about a big thick hardcover book, I think I usually gab a Home Depot one. It covers my lap completely and I don't feel the heat at all. Of course, whenever I get up I let the thing rest on it's side with the back facing out so it can cool itself.

I am home-bound too as I recover from surgery. Do you have Netflix? I have really enjoyed my time catching up with all my movies both on instant and in DVD form. I know you said you are working but there are just so many hours in a day, it's hard to fill them all up when stuck inside. Feel better:flower3:

OP you wouldn't happen to have an old flat scanner would you? I have one that's just about the same size as my laptop. The laptop has little feet that hold it up just enough that it's not flat on the scanner. Put the scanner on my lap with the computer on the scanner, problem solved. It's not ideal, but it works fine and doesn't take up any additional room like a large book might. It's also stronger then a book so you don't have to worry about it bending.

I just wanted to warn you that a soft surface like a pillow will make it worse, not better. The laptop will fall into the pillow and not only will the ventilation holes most likely be blocked but a pillow will absorb heat and not dissipate it. As others have mentioned you want a hard surface, at least in contact with the laptop, so even a television tray made for the bed should work better then a pillow.

Until you can get something I would suggest getting a USB keyboard and just keep that on your lap to type with the computer laying next to you.
