Just got back from our trip to WDW, Sept. 19-25. Had an absolutely AWESOME time.
Am so glad we didn't cancel.
1) Flying
I flew from San Diego to Orlando and back on Southwest Airlines. It was great. The flight was (sadly for the industry) only 1/3 full both ways but it was great as a traveler. I was able to stretch out and sleep both ways lying across all 3 seats. Plus check in was so much quicker than usual, they spent more time on each person (had bags open, bag "swabbed", metal detector wand and light frisk) but since there is hardly anyone flying, the whole process went very quick.
Plus, there wasn't the usual fight for seat with the airplane so empty. And the bags came off the carousel very quickly. A terriffic flight.
2) Wilderness Lodge
Booked a standard room for 6 nights, asked for complimentary upgrade and was given a room with an awesome view of the courtyard. Terriffic. The hotel seemed quite empty. The activity at the hotel picked up over Friday and Saturday, but dropped down again on Sunday.
Low amount of people made lines for food, check-in,etc. non-existent and plenty of room in and around the pool and jacuzzi.
3) The parks
Empty. Again, sad for the industry but great for us. We did the Animal Kingdom and MGM (Thursday) the first day and was able to go on every ride we wanted at least once. Walked all the way onto the Kilimanjaro Safari - unheard of.
Magic Kingdom - went on a Friday and again the following Monday. The park was empty. Walked on and off rides at will. Rode Buzz Lightyear 5 or 6 consecutive times. 3 times on and off Space Mountain. No lines for food. It was great.
Epcot- Went on Sunday. Again, the place was empty.
4) The Characters
Did a lot of character meals (Liberty Tree, Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey's). Was much better than character meals we've done before due to the simple fact of low crowd size. The characters must have come by a minimum of 7-8 times. Here, and in the parks, they actually sought people out. They seemed almost bored at time because there wasn't enough people around. At LT, they were actually dancing and sitting with guests at the table.
We took picture after picture at the meals and also at Epcot and at the Kodak place on Main Street.
5) The Weather
Great. Only rained twice.
IT WAS THE BEST TIME EVER.
