We've set up an account to get an Owner's Locker, and one of the items on the list is a Brita Pitcher. Does it actually get the nasty taste out of the water? If it does, I'm all over that. If not, I'll just keep ordering bottled water in.

Anybody BTDT?????

I don't know about the water in WDW, but we use one here in my office in the Dallas area and it works great. :cool2:

A few years ago Brita sold water bottles that had replaceable filters (I don't think they make them anymore - at least I couldn't find them last year :sad1:). They worked great and removed the chemical taste from the water. I would think the large pitcher would work just as well.

We have one and it sure improves the taste of our city tap water. We thought it was more environmentally friendly than bottled water.

first hand experience here...
When I was testing the concept of Owner's Locker, we kept a Brita filter pitcher in what we called our Florida Box. Much better than buying tons of water bottles. I even kept ice trays in our Locker to make ice cubes. The Orlando water makes crappy ice cubes that can do a number on a good gin and tonic!

I have one of those water bottles in my OL...and 10 replacement filters left. I figure that the bottle will be worn out by the time I finally use all of them :upsidedow

We have a Pur pitcher (same concept, different brand) and it really does a nice job removing funky tastes and odors. I'm going to take the faucet mount unit to WDW this year. No more bottled water for me, I've abused the environment long enough. ;)

We take our Brita Pitcher with us each trip and I think it makes the water much better!!

just fyi - I took the faucet mount to akv and it would not work on the faucet (couldn't mount) not sure if other dvc resorts would have more hospitable faucets but I was bummed - I hate orlando swamp water! That's 80% of the reason we're signed up for OL for our next trip!

I am also curious, like the OP, if it works on Florida water? No offense to those who live in the sunny state, but having family there my whole life, and having lived in 10 different states, Florida has some of the worst tasting, smelling tap water I have ever encountered. Does the Brita really help? I promise, I really am not a water snob...:)

The water there has a high sulpher content hence the taste and smell. I usually drink water with my meals and I have noticed that some of the restaurants in WDW the water is good. I'm wondering if they are filtering the water there. I've had good at some restaurants and bad at others. When it is bad it really doesn't matter what you drink unless you have a beer, everything has ice in it and it makes the drinks taste bad.

My Brita pitcher was the first thing I bought for my OL! DH teases me but it also the first thing I try to get done when we arrive in our studios -- get the filter into the pitcher and start chilling the water! I may borrow John's ideas about the ice cube trays -- but those studio freezers fill up quickly!

I have one in my Owner's Locker, and the filter was used for the first time last August, and has been sitting in the locker since then.

Should I bring down a new filter for it, or will the one from last summer still be OK?

What would you recommend?

I've actually used the same filter for trips over the past 2 years with no problems. I make sure that I shake out all of the water from the cartridge and then keep it inside a closed zip lock bag in my OL between stays. I make sure to give it the old sniff test at the start of each stay. So far so good. I'm beginning to wonder why I'm storing 6 replacement filters if I don't really have to LOL!

We open a new filter for each trip and then bring the new one back home to use in our pitcher at home. I couldn't trust leaving a wet filter in our OL for months....yuk I don't even want to think about it.

We use the faucet filter and keep it in our OL between trips. We drain as much water as possible out of it, then we put a folded paper towel in a baggie, place the filter in that and place it in our OL in an upright position, with the baggie not sealed. No problem using it trip after trip.
For the AKV's, we have found that it can be used on the vanity fixture....a little bit of an inconvenience, but it works.
