Maybe a less than tactful question...

Has anybody slipped the desk clerk a $20 or a $50 for an upgrade before? We'll be staying at the Hard Rock 12/20 and with 4 adults would love to have an upgraded room. ;)

It is an interesting question. A while back, someone joined this forum saying they were a hotel front desk clerk. They said that you are more likely to get an upgrade if you slipped the clerk some money. They didn't last here very long, of course, since they were saying some things that employees just shouldn't say.

You can try sending a really nice email as well as a really nice fax as well as talk really sweetly to someone who is a room controller, before you go.

I'll definitely give it a shot! :) I wound up with a garden view room at the Hard Rock Hotel for $249 (AAA) on 12/20. I could get RPH a little cheaper, but it had to be on the 22nd, and that wasn't the best night for me. I think I'm going to purchase the All Access pass (since it comes with a $20 credit for the Cafe anyway) and fill out the paperwork for the free one at the hotel when we check in. :thumbsup2

If you want an upgraded room, just use that money you where going to "slip" them and pay for the category of room you WANT to have! That's the best way to guarantee you'll get what you want. Employees can be fired for accepting off side bribes....I've heard that this is sometimes done in Vegas, but not a practice I believe that is done at Disney/Universal hotels. Just pay for what you want and everyone will be happy.

Not trying to get anybody fired. I do know for a fact that sometimes it does work this way though. Apparently not at Universal or Disney - which is fine.

As I said in my previous post, I am siging up for All Access (just finished as a matter of fact) and will complete the one they have at the hotel. Hopefully, I'll get lucky.

I hope you do too :) It's always a nice surprise when you DO get something special thrown your way....just wouldn't want you to be dissapointed if it didn't happen. Have an amazing trip! :goodvibes
