I am starting to regret our choices in dates after reading up on the crowds for the dates we are going. We will be there May 26th to May 31st. I have read this is almost peak crowds. This is my youngest dd first time going and I am so afraid it will not be enjoyable. Has anybody gone during these dates that can give me some hope? I have also read that they will close the park if max attendance is reached. Has this ever happened that anybody is aware of during these dates. I want this vacation to be great! Thanks

Welcome to the DIS!

Most of the time you will be there will be Memorial Day weekend. WDW is always crowded on holiday weekends, but I doubt the MK will reach capacity on Memorial Day weekend...that usually only happens on July 4 and New Year's Eve.

If you read that its almost peak times, then I am sure that you read to hit the parks early, take the early afternoon off (ie nap or swim), and then go back late afternoon. If you do that you will be ok :cool1:

Crowds dont bother me. The last time we were there was the first week in June and to me it was crowded but not bad. We are doing a Character lunch at MK on that Saturday. We have a late seating so I was torn do I get there early or should we get there later in the morning? If the parks dont usually reach capacity over Memorial Day then maybe I wont stress to much :)

We are planning on leaving in the afternoon for a nap and a swim. The only day that I am unsure of is Saturday the 27th since we are doing a Character lunch at 2pm. I am starting to feel better about the dates Thanks!!

I was there May 25th-June 7th last year and I will be there May 25th-June 7th this year. There are crowds, but they are managable. You are not likely to reach max capacity. I have only seen that happen on New years Eve and during the premier of Wishes and Mission Space in 2003. The only thing that bothers me during this time is the crowds on the buses so I rent a car. Take your time in the Crystal Palace so that you get some cooling off and relaxing time.

We will be there May 26th-June 5th. and the crowd worried me too, being Mem. day weekend, and Star Wars.
Its great to hear that the crowds should be manageable. We are planning on doing the early morning, and going back to nap, then returning. Learned that tip on these boards...Thanks.. :thumbsup2

Tictoc thanks for the post. I am really glad to hear that coming from somebody who has been those dates. Thanks again!!

It can't be that bad, my Travel Agent emailed the other day with an offer of All-Star Resort rooms for $50 a night (taxes included), if they are offering incentives like that to come it can't be a busy as they had expected.

Tictoc you said you rent a car and dont take the buses. How much does it cost to park. Our last trip to Orlando we went to Universal and stayed off property and drove every morning. Universal had valet parking for 2 dollars more a day. Do you know if Disney has Valet at the parks?

We went last year on May 31st for 2 weeks. I was hoping to beat the crowds. We didn't, it was packed! Not as packed as it was when we went the end of March. That time MK was closed before noon.

Here's my advice for what it is worth. Go early and take a couple hour break in the afternoons. Pray for rain. The only thing that saved us from the heat and crowds was the rain. A cold front moved in the evening we got there and it rained 12 out of the 14 we were there. After the first day or two, we just put on our ponchos and went for it. We got to ride KRR a :cheer2: t AK 2 times in a row because it was pouring down rain and there was no line. We got to see more animals than ever on the KS. Same thing on the last day at MK no need to even fastpass. No lines.

Good luck have fun and just go with the flow! :cheer2:

'

That's odd because the web site shows all values and all moderates fully booked for that time. A couple of weeks ago we decided to make a last minute trip down there May 21st-May 30th and on line all Values and all Moderates were showing no availability. I tried checking day by day and the problem was the weekends. Finally I called CRO who at first said 'no way, all values and all mods are fully booked for that entire week'. He also checked day by day and again the problem was the weekends. He finally put me on hold and said he was determined to find something. He came back a few minutes later and said he had managed to get us a preferred room at POP, but that was the only room available anywhere unless I was willing to book in a Deluxe resort, and even they were limited.

Parking at the parks is fre if you are staying on property. it is also fre if you have an Annual Pass. Both apply to me so I am not sure of the daily rate for parking. There is no valet parking at any of the parks. I am a real early bird and I make it a point to get to the parks well before opening. Therefore, at AK, MGM and Epcot I usually get to park pretty close up. At Magic Kingdom you have to park at the TTC and take a *fairy* boat or the Monorail over. If you are eating breakfast at one of the resorts on the monorail they do have valet.

The 27th is a Star Wars Weekend at MGM so they will be pulling some of the crowd away from Magic Kingdom--that should also help with the crowd level. Locals will also tend to avoid the park that day since it is a holiday.

I have been there is May twice and it was busy, but it never put a damper on our fun. I just go with the mindset that there will always be crowds and lines at Disney. Normally I choose to go in the off season but anytime you go can be a lot of fun.

I have never seen a park get closed because it is full.
