Well our planned Dec. holiday trip has been thwarted but for a good reason (recent college grad DS got a fulltime job  but doesn't have enough vacation time to go ) so we are now thinking we'd like to reschedule for early May. We went once in early May and really liked that timing but it was a few years back and we missed May 4th by one day. I had actually never heard of the event before we were there and saw some tshirts at Star Tours (the day after).

Can anyone tell me what celebrations they have on May the 4th and what your experiences were? Was it crazy crowded? Will there be the Star Wars fireworks?

Also since we were planning Dec now going almost 6 months later will anything more be open in the Studios May 2018?

Thanks.

The events are much more subdued now that Star Wars Weekends are not longer being held. This was sort of the unofficial (or maybe even official) beginning to those once upon a time. Now, they have a few shirts or pins but really, not that much specific occurs out of the ordinary day to day events.

As for what is going to be open in May 18? Well, that remains to be seen. Toy Story Land is slated to open in 2018. What time in 2018 no one knows. Might it be May? It might.

Specifically regarding the fireworks, that is now an ongoing, regular show so it is likely it will be running at that time, barring any major changes.

There is so much Star Wars stuff around they really don't do anything special anymore. Every day they have March of the First Order, Star Wars: A Galaxy Far Far Away, Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular (fireworks/projection show), plus the Launch Bay area where you can meet Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, and BB-8, so you can definitely get your Star Wars on on May 4th!

Oh, I'm really out of that loop I guess. I didn't realize there was no longer Star Wars weekends o_O Last time we went right before the weekends were starting, I think we did a Mon-Sat trip and missed Mother's Day and SW weekends, it was May 2014. I will have a lot to catch up on.

We were at Hollywood Studios last May 4th and it was insanely crowded. The current layout of the park funnels people through a lot of crowded walkways. In retro-spect I would not have gone there that day.

We were there this year on May 4th. had planned to stay until three and then hit the road, but it got pretty crowded by about 11. Nothing special happened, but there was an excitement in the air! A LOT of adults were Disney Bounding, and a lot of kids were dressed up as, SW characters. Lots of Princess Leia buns! :)
