DH and I want to go to either DL or WDW for our 20th wedding anniversary next year. Our kids will be 7 and 9 in June of next year. We live in Arizona and the kids usually have a week off from school in October so that is one option. We would fly out on a Saturday and depart the following Sat or Sun.

OR we would fly out to Orlando the Saturday, Sunday, or Monday of Memorial Day weekend and stay about 8 nights.

I looked at the weather averages for both times of year and the avg temps look comparable. But what are the differences in terms of crowds? Going to the Halloween party stuff is not a high priority for us. We have been to DL once before about a year ago and it was great! This time, it would be nice to go somewhere that none of us have been before. Well, I went to WDW one time back when it was just MK.

Thanks in advance for your tips and input!!

I would say October all the way! My first trip to WDW was the week of Memorial day in 1994 and I've never went back in May! We had very long waits for everything. October will have little to no lines and staying on property is cheaper.

October gets my vote. It's a fantastic time to visit - the weather is usually great and the crowds are mid-level at their worst. Early May is a nice time to go but as the weeks progress so do the crowds, heat and humidity. Memorial Day is an incredibly popular time to visit and often sees high, near peak, crowd levels.

Thanks guys! Here in Arizona, the weather in October is great...warm but not hot & the evenings start to cool off. It's hard to tell sometimes when you go off of weather averages online! This year (2014), our kids' fall break occurs the week of Mon 10/6, so in 2015, fall break would occur in a similar week.

Our actual wedding anniversary is on 7/1, but I can totally wait a couple more months for a trip like this!

If you would be going early October I think that would be a good time to go as far as crowds go.

:) Columbus Day in Oct is also popular when you are going. But if I had to pick over May (Memorial Day) or October ( Columbus)....no decision really....October all the way.

We have been both times of year. You will enjoy F&W too I think.

October is a great time to be there, we usually always go in fall but we'll be there at the beginning of May this time for the Flower and Garden show at Epcot. Very Excited! We did make sure to time it so it was after spring break and before the long weekend in May. We've been told this is one of the best times to be there,as crowds are low and the weather is summer-like but not unbearable,Here's hoping! Enjoy your trip!!

We went last Oct as a family, and are doing a couples trip in May. October is the best time to go IMO. The crowds weren't too bad and we love Halloween! The weather was phenomenal with not a drop of rain and mid 70's every day.

We are going in May for Star Wars weekends and realize that the crowds for that + Memorial day are going to be terrible. Luckily we are headed there with 2 other couples so we can spend a lot of adult time together and not have to focus on all the Disney must do-s for kids.
