We purchases a resale of 250 WLV points on May 5th. Our agent is approximating a 45-60 day window for closing. The problem is that we are leaving the country on June 20th and travelling until our first trip to WDW as DVC members on July 13th. We will have usable points after we close and are hoping to get some last minute reservations with the DVC points during our July trip (we have a paid reservation if that falls through.) My fear is that we may not recieve the closing paperwork and Member number until we are actually out of the country already.
Question 1: If I contact MS before I have recieved a number in the mail will they talk to me?
Question 2: How do I find out the contact info for MS so I can call them if I don't recieve thier official paperwork?
Thanks, Jennifer

You don't need to wait until you get mail confirmation to call MS, since they can look you up by your SS#. They won't be able to assist until your purchase has closed, the deed recorded and the information is transferred into the DVC computer. That usually occurs within a week of the actual closing.

Once the closing has been completed, you can call and see if you're in the system. Once you're there you can make a reservation immediately.

If you're near a phone on your trip, you'll be able to contact MS.

Welcome Home!!

And was in DVC's computer by Thursday afternoon - that was pretty quick from close to computer. However, we wrote the deposit check for the process to start on 3/31, so that makes it 52 days from deposit to DVC. I should also mention that we are current members and we added to our current use year, so those issues may make it easier to get setup in the computer at DVC (vs a completely new account). Finally, the seller's were in the UK and it took approx an extra week to get both their signed contract and final closing papers back.

Good Luck!!

I assume you signed the contract and made the deposit on 5 May. DVC could take up to 30 days from when it's submitted to say Ok to the sale or buy it back but most are within 2-3 weeks of being submitted it appears. After that it's just a matter of getting the deed done, signed by all parties and recorded along with notifying DVC of same. The big holdup is waiting on DVC. The only things you (or the closing company) have control over is how long it takes to get it submitted and the process after DVC says yes, assuming they let it go through. You could give the closing agency power of attorney but I would recommend against it and I doubt most would be willing.

I'd simply recommend discussing with your broker and the closing company ahead of time and then being ready once all is in order. They may be able to speed things up a bit by using overnight mailing options. As noted above, many will expedite it for an extra fee but it rubs me the wrong way to pay them extra for what they should be doing anyway. I'd say you have a great chance of getting in under the wire before you leave town but no guarantees. Remember you will need a notary and two witnesses to sign the deed with you so be prepared for that. Once you know closing has happened, call DVC about 2 working days after and they can look in the computer to see if you're there. If not, ask to talk to member administration and ask the question again.
