May MK hours - venting frustration :-)

We're planning on Epcot that day. I may consider going to MK very late in the evening but you're right about the weekend crowds.

I think that is a good plan too. Much of my trip planning is being driven by the fact my two young (20's) adult children are going on this trip with us. We are thrilled they wanted to go with us but balancing the desires of 4 is harder than 2 (or harder than when they were just kids). They would prefer not to do rope drop every day and no a.m. emh so we are doing MK rope drop on that Sunday, and Epcot rope drop on Monday. We are doing May the Fourth be With You day at HS Friday (DS's request), entering park at 3pm-close, and our 1:30-close park day at AK Sat. On our last night my DD requested HDDR (new to us)which we are doing at 6:15 (after Epcot) then on to eve. emh 9-11pm at MK. Also getting half day Epcot on arrival day. They also requested scheduled pool time so we have that two days.... IF they choose to get up and go to the pool in a timely matter haha.

LOL, our upcoming trip we have DS,23 and his GF 21. We got together to discuss plans and first thing DS told his GF was that we get up early at Disney and "mom ain't playing when she says get up," and "we can sleep when we aren't at Disney". I have trained my boy well :smooth:

We are also waiting for May hours to be adjusted. I'm hoping for some longer AK hours.

I feel ya. We are going to be there mid-May, too. I'd really like MK to stay open longer so night-time EMH could be extended. Midnight in front of the castle is so magical!

Excellent point! I believe our trips overlap (we start Disney on 5/04, after a 3 day Universal trip). I’m excited that MK is open until midnight on 5/05 but I don’t like how busy they must be expecting it to be.

Yep. We're going from 4/29 to 5/6. We are planning to be at crazy MK on the 5th. I knew it would be busy (the equivalent Sat last year was very busy) but it's what worked out best in our plans.

We will be at AK instead, entering park by 1:30 for the new Up bird show then our first FP is FoP at 3pm. We will stay till the new extended close which is 10:30pm. Thats a long enough day for us!

Have you seen a schedule yet for the UP show? I couldn't find any specific show times when I looked a couple days ago.

I need for you late April/early May trippers to report on the Up! show when you get back. I want to know if they have birds zooming at the audience like they did when it was Flights of Wonder.

Then, until we leave, hours are down at MK to a 9PM close, only to get back to a 10PM close, starting the day after we leave.
I don't think the hours for our April trip changed until just a couple weeks ago, so there is still a chance that they will extend the hours. MK was pretty much the only park that had changes to their hours. I would all the others pretty much stayed what they were or only changed a 1/2 hour.

This is me talking to my in-laws about our upcoming trip. They keep referencing the word "vacation" and I'm like - ya'll know Disney isn't a normal vacation, right? It's kinda like running a marathon for a week with an occasional Dole Whip or Mickey pretzel break

Yep. They have been doing it this way for months. I think it was around March 16 or 17 when they updated the April hours. And they have been known to add hours within the same week of the date they are changing (poor wording--they may add hours for May 25 or May 23 or 24).

I miss the days of MK being open til 2am, it was so magical when we did that in 2009, oh well, guess midnight is better than 9? lol

Can I ask why those dates are busy? I mean is there a particular reason? We are thinking of that date range for a future trip. Thanks!

I for one don't miss those days. I bet Disney hotels use to get a lot of complaints from folks being woken up in the middle of the night with these late night guests returning to their rooms.

Thanks for the moral support! I'll keep hoping they increase the hours a little, but we'll make do (and be very happy) if they don't. It is comforting to read his have been known to change much closer to the dates, so who knows!

Only 4 more weeks of work to go. I'm surviving by listening to Disney music on Google Play

I don't honestly know. There is a big cheerleading competition that weekend each year - maybe most of the teams are done competing by Sat? The weekdays in May are regular season and very nice crowd wise but the weekends are peak. Last year I thought MK was busy because it was the last weekend of Wishes but Disney seems to expect it to be busy on the weekend this year too.

There is some Star Wars thing happening at the Studios on 5/4.

May the Fourth be with you.

I got an email from Touring Plans this morning bumping up the crowd calendar numbers for my trip dates, 5/03/18 - 5/12/18. Most bumped up one point (5 to 6 for example) but I did see AK and HS bump up 2 points.

Yup I got my email too... May 3rd went from a 3 to a 6 overall .. I have never been before so hoping these are still very easy to manage crowds
