Changes to booking fees
Certain Member Getaways bookings are subject to a nonrefundable transaction fee, which helps to cover the costs associated with these bookings. To offset the rising costs of processing Concierge Collection and Adventurer Collection reservations, transaction fees for these bookings have increased to $95, effective May 1, 2003. All other transaction fees remain the same, including vacation exchanges made through Interval International®. Please note that there is no additional fee required for existing reservations. However, if a reservation made before May 1, 2003 is changed, this is considered a cancellation and new reservation that would require paying the new fee.

The 3-H 'Club'
"Health, History, Horses." The city of Saratoga Springs, New York, uses those three words as its tagline, a tribute to the town's mineral springs and soothing spas, its colorful architecture and storied past, and of course, the community's rich horseracing tradition. About a thousand miles southwest in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, this tagline has been adopted as a sort of blueprint for Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa. The new proposed Disney Vacation Club Resort will encompass three themed areasone 'health,' another 'history,' and the third, 'horses.'
Jacki McNicholas has been giving those same three words some careful thought. As a Development Manager for Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Jacki oversees its interior detailing. Her team is using "Health, History, Horses" as a design checklist, with each 'H' represented in some way throughout the resort's interior spaces. Or as Jacki says, "We sort of weigh out each room, so they're not totally horse-filled or totally history-filled...[achieving] a good balance."
Artwork is especially important in bringing a resort's theme to life. So while doing design research in Saratoga Springs, Jacki met with Mary Hannah of Kay Hannah Associates, the Art Consultant for Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa. They visited with several resident artists and also spent time at the Historical Society of Saratoga Springs. Of their stop at the latter, Jacki says, "We wanted to get some older photographs to use [at the resort], so we've been working with them on that."
According to Jacki, the photographic reproductions she proposed would be framed and displayed inside the entrance of each Vacation Home: "It sort of looks like a photo album...with ovals and squares and different cutouts...black and white photos and sepia photos of different things from Upstate New York." While 'History' is immediately checked off, 'Health' and 'Horses' also have their place here. A photograph of a pergola, a trellis-like structure traditionally built over a mineral springs, serves as a reminder of the area's famous springs and the healing powers they were believed to have. Pictures of visitors to the Saratoga Race Course, dressed in their finest, may also be included. Of the photo display, Jacki says, "I think it's a really neat piece, because it shows a variety of things that happened in Saratoga."
As noted in Member Clubhouse last month, the furniture, fixtures, and fabrics at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa are all custom-designed and produced specifically for the project. The same is true for art pieces, whatever their form, including the framed paintings in the Vacation Homes. Above the sofa in the living room is "The Field of Dreams," horses that have won various races in Saratoga, painted by a local artist. In the Master Bedroom, there are two paintings, one of a steamship that used to travel on Lake Chautauqua in Upstate New York, and another of a Ferris Wheel, a nod to the county fairs once popular with residents. And in the bathroom, a picture of an old lifeguard station and nearby beachgoers is placed above the spa tub.
But, says Jacki, "We're trying not to have everything be a framed piece of art. We have a painting on a piece of wood that has some flowers on it, sort of Victorian, and it will have a crackle finish so it will look a little bit older." Jacki states that this "more dimensional" piece is slated to go above the armoire in the living room. Serving as a table lamp in the same space is a small Victorian house with a silhouette shade. "When it's off, it looks like a regular lampshade, but when you turn it on, there's a silhouette of a racehorse," says Jacki.
Some artwork will be unique to a particular configuration of Vacation Homes. Studios, for instance, will "have a piece of artwork with lots of pictures of Saratoga Springs in its heyday, like the Grand Hotel and street scenes," says Jacki. Whatever the size of your resort accommodations, you'll feel the spirit of Saratoga Springs in every space. Thanks to the work of Jacki, Mary, and the entire design team, a fourth 'H' now comfortably joins "Health, History, Horses" at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa"Home."
