We are very naughty and take our (infant school) children out of school for trips. I think that at infant level there is more educational benefit for a holiday than necessarily being in school full time. Fortunately the school agree and don't penalise us for it. Our kids will speak French, visit French places (we are going to Paris) and do so much in those 5 days. I used to be very anti taking kids out of school until I had kids at school LOL!
We are quite guilty of taking our kids out of school! We had been planning on going to the UK for our spring break, the first week of April, but when I started checking on flights, the fares on Virgin were incredibly low...if we left a week earlier.
I said to my husband, "Just think of how much money we'll save if we go a week earlier!" Not to be deceived by my use of 'fuzzy math' logic, he replied, "Think of how much we'll spend on vacation then!"
Next, we had to debate whether to pull the kids out of school. I said that with the extra week, we could go to DLP. So, in two weeks' time, our kids will get to see London, Paris, DLP, Stratford upon Avon, and see two RSC performances (one with Patrick Stewart and another with Ian McKellan)--I just don't think anything they'd study in school that week will compare--in the grand scheme of their lives--to that experience. (Our kids are 11, 11, and 10--and are quite the little Shakespeare *and* Disney lovers.)
So...we booked our flights and now I'm fussing happily over details for DLP (and getting to know all you lovely people).
