may crowds ??

We've gone twice in May; once in 1997 before AK was open, and then for a long weekend over Mother's day in 2003. It was very hot & humid both trips, but the crowds were quite manageable during the week. One of the trips was also during the Flower & Garden festival, but even at epcot it wasn't too bad...

I agree it is very hot and humid in May. We went mothers day week and it was terrible. We live in the south and call ourselves used to the humdity, but we ended up having to go early in the morning or at night to enjoy ourselves. My wife and I said never agin. We would wait and go either in the fall or early spring.

We went this year and last in May and although it was hot, usually upper 80's and low 90's the crowds weren't too bad. We made sure to use FP on the more popular rides at each park none the less. We also made sure to have our ADR's in place.

We went in May this year over the Mother's Day weekend. The crowds weren't too bad and the weather was just nice. The day before we left it was 97 degrees but that was the warmest one. :sunny: Hopefully we will be able to go in May again next year but it seems my son's hockey goes later and later every year - but then, as long as we get there I'll be happy.

We've been to WDW in May and Oct and although May might have been a little hotter it wasn't by much. Fall can be hot too - check out the temps in September and October - they're pretty similar to May. We have a ressies to go this May and we find May to be one of the best times to go. Have a good trip!

We are also going in late April/early May for the first time and we are hoping it isn't too hot. We were just there this past August and it was very hot and humid. Please tell me August is worse than May! :sad2: I know it is still Disney but we found it too uncomfortable to do much during the day.

I'm really glad to OP asked this question. I'll be going down next May with a large group of extended family. We should be fine with the heat, but I was worried about the crowds.

We were in the parks May 20-31. We did not go into the parks Sat and Sun of Mem wknd. It was unseasonably HOT with temps around 93. I don't think we had a day less than 90. It rained once in the early evening while we had dinner. I found the crowds to be managable. I subscribed to TourGuide Mike and used his best days and touring advice. We waited for Splash Mountain for an hour (time posted was 30 minutes and dd really wanted to ride). We never waited more than 20 minutes (and mostly less) for anything. We took an afternoon break almost everyday. AK was the worst for the heat, we left at 12:30 b/c we couldn't stand how hot it was (and crowded but that is due to those too narrow walkways)!! We had a blast and I would return that same time again. This year we are going in mid March and I'm hoping for temps in the upper 70s!!! NO HEAT WAVE!!

Coming from a Floridian regular guest, my parents come with us twice a year on the same 2 weekends every year. We bring them the first weekend of May every year. If your worried about the heat, go earlier then later. The crowds aren't bad though. If you plan well, the crowds won't matter anytime you go.

Any special events going on in May...like Grad Nights? We are planning a romantic 10 year anniversary trip...will stay at the POLY for the first time ever, but wondering if there is a chance of late night festivities at MK and extra noise late at night.

Also, as for weather in May...it is kind of hit or miss. This past year I thought the temps here in S FL were quite confortable , considering we ARE in FL and it WAS May, ya know? I remember the night of our wedding, 10 years ago, it was sooooo hot. I think there was a heat wave. Then again, maybe I was just a nervous bride, LOL.

I can't wait for May! :Pinkbounc

From what I've read Grad Nights are the last two weekends in April and there was something May 4th in AK. Please double check though my memory isn't so great lately  . I did a search on the themepark/strategies forum and thats where I got these dates. We're going in May too.

Florida is warm anytime with the exception of Jan/Feb (can be "cold"), I'd rathar go in May then earlier in the spring due to the crowds. From what I've read Jan and Feb sometimes can be not swimming weather and some attractions are closed (mostly Jan). School vacations (and college spring break) are different all over the country so March and April are unpredictable - although my sister went in March for 1 day (stayed offsite) and said the crowds weren't too bad.

Sorry about my rambling on. Have fun whenever you go!

Thanks! We will be there May 3 (our actual anniversary...dining at V&As that night!) to May 6th so I will look into it, although it really doesn't matter. Won't change our plans or anything!

Thanks for your response! :)

Is MAY usually as hot as AUGUST? Since we went twice during the last week of August and were ok with the heat, May should be fine for us, right?! :confused3

I love going in May. Do it every year....Sept too is great. ;)

The EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival is happening in May and its "wonderful" :flower: :butterfly
In Sept...most kids are back in school....the crowds a pleasure. ::yes::

As far as the weather...yes it can get hot...but...that only reminds me go back to my resort and enjoy the pool :beach: or take a nap for the evening festivities!!

I'm done doing Disney "commando" style...many yrs. ago.... and usually stay 7+ days...so I can relax and enjoy "All Things Disney!!! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

That's our plan too! We'll be at BCV...so stormalong bay should be great! I've been to Disney during different months of the year...this is my first May trip...if I can handle the heat of the summer...May should be fine, too! Spring here in PA can be chilly...so to get down there in the heat will feel great!
