sorry - but I need to ask - this is our 1st house w/carpet(so never had to deal with this before.. - what do I put on it to get throw-up out? I have the spot bot - but I'm afraid to put that on it first - won't that just spread the germs? Should I sprinkle it w/baking soda or something???

THANKS for your help!

I would use either Nature's Miracle or Simple Solution. Both are enzymatic cleaners that will get all the smell and bacteria out...

I use it all the time when the dogs get sick on the carpet... (Which is the norm because they refuse to throw up on the tile floor... :rotfl: )

Hope this helps!

Tracy

blot up all that you can blot up first, in fact suck up all of the solid material the best you can. i like simple solution. it is for pet stains but does very well with any bodily fluids. try that. it should clean and deordorize it. you may be able to use it in your spot bot.

There's hardly anything that grosses me out :teeth: Shampoo your carpets

Imagine my surpirse to see the title and you posting on it :rotfl:

all I've got is baking soda & spot bot stuff -
if I sprinkle the baking soda on should I vacuum or sweep it? swerrping will be better to get rid of germs -right?

can't go out & buy naything - alone w/2 sick kiddos -

Baking soda will help absorb the liquid and the smell. Sweep up any large bits then vacuum. Clean with the spot bot once all the powder is up.

I work for a vet, run a private animal rescue with 21 kitties living in my house and have 1 very sweet feline with an IBD type disease that causes her to vomt every couple of days. Life is an adventure and I try to live each day to it's fullest.

luvmyfam~Glad to hear your little ones are doing better. Hopefully you don't have any more tummy upsets any time soon.

Awwwww, how rewarding!!! I have 4 dogs and one rescue kitty, and do dog rescue as well. As you probably know, no self-respecting cat will vomit on a tile floor in the middle of the afternoon. Better to do it in a secluded part of the house at 3 am - and definitely on the carpet.

If you don't already use it, try Nature's Miracle or Simple Solution. (I use Nature's Miracle) It will save you a boatload of time and effort. It is all-natural and enzymatic and works WAY better than baking soda or any commercial carpet cleaner I have found. It cleans up EVERY kind of pet and child accident you can think of. (Just ask how great it is at getting blood out of the carpet when your DH decides that trimming dog nails in the living room is a swell idea! ) I know I sound like a commercial, but the minute I put it on the blood and just blotted it out, I was sold. I even use it to clean my tile floors.

Again, kudos to you, kitty-rescuer!!!

What stores carry Nature's Miracle or Simple Solution? I've never heard of them but I think I should get some!

Hi!

Usually Petsmart or Petco will have one or the other. It's great even for getting dog pee out of the carpet... You blot up any excess pee, pour on the stuff and let it soak down to the pad then just let it dry... Works like a charm! (I have a senior Keeshond girl that sometimes forgets she is housebroken. She rarely does it on the rug, though thank goodness.) It is also great because, unlike carpet cleaners that contain soaps and whatnot, this one does not leave a residue that draws dirt.

I wish I would have known about this stuff YEARS ago!

Tracy

I've used both NM and SS. They're both good. (Baking soda was a quick fix)

If y'all don't have a Petsmart or Petco nearby, check out www.kvvet.com they're really competitive price-wise and offer free shipping on almost all their products.

I agree with the vomiting cat thing most days but this one will sit on DH's lap and start to retch. He freaks out and she tries to run and find a safe quiet spot to leave a mess.

I have a dog that got an upset stomach while lying on my bed and he started licking the comforter. Since I knew that this generally means they're getting ready to throw up, I stuck the trash can in front of his face to catch the vomit. He was a good boy and learned his lesson about getting into the trash and he turned his head away from the can so he wouldn't get into trouble. I did convince him to vomit in the can but the poor guy was so confused.

After years of dealing with blood stains, I've found peroxide is the best at getting blood out of most fabrics. I use it on my scrubs at least once a week, it takes the blood off our patients too when they're veins leak (blow) after a blood draw. It even cleaned the blood out of my carpet when DS cut his foot and walked through the house to find me. I do reccomend trying it against a wall or in a closet before the first use as I have heard that it can take the color out.

Thanks for the warm fuzzies regarding my avocation. I know that I'm giving my fuzz kids the chance at a better life and they're grateful for the love and attention.

And I think we've officially hijacked OP's thread.... sorry.

Thanks for the info. I've got to buy some! My 14 year old dog has started to have "accidents" that she never had before.

I know your dog is old and this is something to be expected from old age but please see your vet, there are meds that can be given to help with her accidents.

Really?? I had no idea. :confused3

Could you give me a little more info so I could research it on the internet before her next appointment? Many thanks!! :)

The medication for urinary incontinence is phenylpropanolmine (PPA) or proin. This used to be used in many human meds including OTC cough formulas and has been off the market for 5-6 yrs but is a very good drug for dogs with urinary issues. Typically, your vet would obtain a urine sample and make sure your dog doesn't have a UTI and then would discuss medical management for the incontinence.

Good luck, I know it can be hard to take care of an aging pet.
