Day Five: Cozumel
On this trip: me(33), DH(32), friends J(22) and S925) all from Orlando
DH went to spin class again. The rest of us got a pretty late start. All the sun and fun was catching up to us. We slept through breakfast so we all went to lunch at Lumiere's and had cheeseburgers and ice cream. Vacation junk food is the best
We went down to the tender and there was no wait at all. Those tender boats can hold a lot of people- our boat wasn't even half full, though by the time we got there is was after 1PM and most people were probably already off the ship. The hurricane damage, as others have mentioned, is still quite bad. DH and I starred at what was left of the dock and said last time we came we walked on that and went straight to the shops. The shops are also in shambles, many of them completely gone. We started walking and looking around. The people who run the shops are every bit as aggressive as you've heard. You can't even look at them or hesitate for even a moment, or they will bombard you. It's a bit unnerving. S made the mistake of hesitating in front of a place that rented scooters. The man there would not let us walk away in peace. He kept hollering after us and offering to "help". First he insisted on giving us a map, then it was coupons for Carlos and Charlie's and the next thing I knew we were in his "other store" looking at jewelry.
S wanted a pair of earrings for his mother, so he looked around the shop. Of course the scooter man was showing him jewel after jewel and he kept saying "I give you great price! How much you want to pay??" S finally bought a pair of earrings, originally priced $80 for $25, but who knows, they were probably junk. Oh well
After that experience, we'd had quite enough "shopping". We decided to go to Carlos and Charlie's to see what all the fuss was about. Whew! This place is super crazy! There were tons of people there, a dance floor, LOTS of drinking.... Not usually my thing, but I figured Hey, we're in Mexico! So we got a table and ordered a giant drink each. They started a round of Limbo and every time you went under the pole they would pour tequila into your mouth. Conga line- same thing. Lots of Tequila! The music there was great and we spent a lot of time on the dance floor. They also give you free popcorn. I went to use the bathroom and was surprised to find an attendant in there passing our towels for tips. Not the kind of place you'd expect to find a bathroom attendant. We saw the band from the ship at the bar having drinks. It was kind of funny to see them there.
What a crazy place! It's great if that's your thing! But some people were bringing their children in there and then looking shocked when the bar girls would come around giving people shots of Tequila and smacking them on the behind, which was apparently included with every shot. Hello, it's a BAR. What did you expect? Take the kids to the beach!
A little bit too much Tequila later, we headed back to the ship. Soon it was time to change into pirate outfits for Pirate Night!! We were all really looking forward to pirate night. DH and I were ready first so we went to the atrium to get a picture with pirate Chip and Dale. Then we met up with S, J, and new friend Sarah for a game of Bingo. Of course Pirate Travis and Pirate Michael were there too. We had a really fun time, but lost as usual.

We went to dinner at Animator's Palate that night. Sandor and Maria (our servers) were all dressed up in their pirate outfits, we were all dressed up in ours, and even the Canadians had on an eye patch or two. Great dinner! The servers really rushed because they knew we all wanted to get to the party on deck 9.

All of us, Canadians included, went to deck nine together for the party. We danced around like crazy people, but I have to admit, it wasn't the best party. The music was really bad- a lot of random songs that none of us even knew- and the entertainment staff had a dance routine for every single song, but it was hard to learn because we couldn't see very well from where we were, and people were crowded all around us to watch the fireworks. No one wanted to dance, they just wanted a spot to watch fireworks from, so they just stood there as close to us as they could. Not knowing the music and not having room to move pretty much killed it for me. After a while we just stood still along with everyone else. Boring!!
The fireworks were great! Of course it's not "Wishes" but you're outside on a beautiful ship and the fireworks add so much to the experience. We loved that part!
After the fireworks we decided to jump in the hot tub so we went to get changed. We were only gone for ten minutes, but when we came back the Pirate buffet was completely gone! I was really surprised there was nothing left! I don't know if there were just THAT many people eating it, or if they just took it down or what, but I was disappointed. Too slow, I guess. Let that be a lesson to me. Food first!
We got in the hot tub with S and J. And Sarah was there and Michael and a couple of other people that we met on the ship. The vibe was a bit weird though- not sure why, maybe we missed something- so DH and I didn't stay long. We left to watch some of Pirates in the Caribbean on the big screen. Soon after that we decided to turn in. Overall we thought Pirate Night was tons of fun, but we needed some sleep!
