Well, Kyle is jumping up and down because my vacation bucket (time off from work) is almost empty at this point which means I can't plan anything else for 2008. And for '09, we've already got the week in April and a week in November and a tentative week for end of August (although that may be Universal versus Disney (yes, believe it or not) and that takes about 2/3 of my vacation time for '09. Plus the kids will be in school so these misc. ad hoc trips truly will come to an end. Until then though... :dance3:

But you planned Thanksgiving at WDW for 2008, right? Or did "Thanksgiving" move to a cruise? What are you doing for Christmas?

I'm meh about the Universal versus Disney thing. The Spiderman ride was pretty neat, and I had a good time at the Islands of Adventure.

I get 25 days of vacation time a year (that have to be used each year, no less :cool1: ) and I have 6 days left to allocate to Thanksgiving and Christmas (that's after the Sept cruise). DH gets less time off, so I tend to be the one taking off for sick days, even though he has like 17 days left in his bank. He also does the work from home thing when he needs to.

Talk to you later!

I get 27 days a year that I use or lose so you know dang skippy they're getting used! I usually plan on taking time off around Christmas and then it ends up being half day here and there since I manage to use it up. :)
So...
1) Meh? (universal vs Disney)
2) We originally had October AND November planned prior to DVC. With the purchase of DVC we moved our existing reservations so that we were using DVC points. So, October is me and the kids...going specifically for MNSSHP (and praying for NO rain this year). November is thanksgiving with all 4 of us. Haven't told my MIL yet that we won't be there for Thanksgiving. I am not looking forward to her reaction. I am HOPING that I can use my 4 R/T certificates on SouthWest for my 'free' airfare. The flights don't come out until late June so I have to wait... :rolleyes1 I hate waiting, but alas... June (2 weeks from now) was the $111 R/T for the 3 of us deal (nuts!) and July was another great airfare rate (although not as good as the $111).
3) The cruise is for November of 2009...not '08.
4) We also have Myrtle Beach at the end of August with Kyle's Mom.

Ciao!
Dawn

Ah, ok. Thanksgiving this year you'll be down there, Nov. 2009 you'll be dissing me and the Double Dip. :rotfl:

Meh means I don't have an opinion.

DH is playing Rock Band. I'm playing groupie and watching him. Fiona has actually already crashed for the night!!! Woohoo!

I'm so excited to start planning my Land/Sea for June 2009! I just got an email from PassPorters that they are offering a special rate for pre-ordering their 2009 WDW guide due out in October ($19.95! :) ), and I still hadn't used my 30% off discount for registering my 2007 Cruise Guide! So I ordered it. Although, I think you can use the 30% off repeatedly.

My problem now is that I'm going back into the classroom (hopefully, I'll get hired!), so our vacations will all have to be during peak rate! While I would consider taking DS out of school for a vacation, it's just not doable for a teacher to take more than a couple of days off for one!

HOLY SMOKES...AFter being on this stinkin' site for two years, I FINALLY figured out the double quote thing!

So, anywho...you know, you COULD come down to WDW too you know... :) And I am NOT dissing you. K&G in school...Fiona is not yet. So there.

Oh, and I DID think about going for Christmas too, but that would be 3 months in a row. Perhaps a bit excessive. :rotfl2:

I hear that! I am having slight (not too big) guilt over taking the kids out for a day in October so they can go to MNSSHP. And that also accounts for the 95 trips (ok, not quite) that are planned. There is a drought (ok, mini-drought) between November and April. Whatever will I do? At this point, I'm just tapping my fingers WAITING for next Friday (the 30th) when I can make my ADRs for Thanksgiving... You just KNOW I'll be on the line at 6:59a calling!

Happy Memorial Day all!

Ha, ha! I went multi-quote CRAZY when I finally figured it out!

Don't feel guilty about pulling the kids out. Just work extra hard to make up all the work before/after any time you have an absence. As a former(future) teacher, it's really not that big a deal for kids to be out even for a week if the families are responsible about it. I just know that as a teacher, it's too darn much work and hassle for me to miss a big chunk of school. :guilty:

Dawn: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: Yeah yeah yeah... You know I'm just jealous of your airfare. It's around $600 each for us to fly to Orlando. That makes DVC prohibitive at the moment.

bobbi: DCL is like Pringles... You can't have just one. :thumbsup2

Linda:  I hope everything works out with your mom. I'll be thinking of you guys this weekend.

Brandie,

Thanks for the good wishes. Things are on hold right now. Dad and I have requested a meeting with the care team and the next day that I am available is Wednesday. Dad refuses to take her home until we meet and they cannot throw her out on the street.

We will get more answers then and hopefully a more organized transition plan in place. There is still much to be done before taking her home.

Dawn,

We FINALLY booked our first DVC trip. We had hoped for mid October, but nothing was available so we are now going down for the last week of Food and Wine Nov 2-8. We simply cannot wait!!!!

Linda

Hey everybody! Check out my new ticker. Yep, we changed our dummy date to a firm date for Aug. 2009. :dance3: We were planning on a 2010 date but I convinced my dh to go next year. Love those feminine wiles.:rolleyes1
I am so excited and the best part is that my kids won't have to miss any school.

Just thought I would share my fun news.

Bobbie,

Are you the one whose dh was writing an article about not gaining weight on a cruise? I was just wondering how that worked out? Has he written it yet? Can we catch it in publication somewhere at a later date? I'm an aspiring writer, too, so I'm always curious about this stuff.

I actually came back at the exact same weight I left! (I'm at an almost 50 lb loss since October thanks to weight watchers). That was a huge relief to me, since I figured I was going to gain about 5 lbs the way I was eating. I wasn't horrible, but I wasn't great, either. But I guess taking the stairs so much paid off! ::yes::

Just curious how the article turned out.

CruisinEars: Congratulations!!!

Thank you, thank you!! I am so excited and even my dh is excited. He is already asking me about hotels and excursions. :cool1: :cool1: We had such a wonderful, I mean Magical, cruise we just couldn't wait to go again. This next 15 months is going to go slow.

*teehee* I know how you feel! We talk about cruising a lot in this household, too. My daughter is looking forward to seeing "Mommy's Mommy" on the boat.

That reminds me, I need to make another paper chain. :goodvibes

Yup! That's me! It worked out ok. Congratulations on maintaining YOUR big weight loss, even after the cruise. :thumbsup2 We actually both gained a couple of pounds when we weighed in upon our return, but it came off so quickly (within two days) that I think most of it was water retention from two days of sitting in the car all day! The story will be in the November issue of Open Air which is a quarterly supplement in USAToday. I will see if I can post it on this thread when it comes out. I will actually be writing it with him, so readers will get both our sides of the story. :) We were both pretty indulgent with the food, and the DCL PR department didn't help! DH had contacted them before the cruise, and they filled our stateroom with welcome aboard gifts of a huge cheese platter, a fruit tray, and a bottle of champagne, and then we had some plate of food delivered to our room EVERY DAY annonymously that we assume was from them!

:rotfl2: That's hilarious! I love it! That must have been fun!:rotfl2: I'll have to try that next time!

I was pretty indulgent, too. I started out very determined to order from the "lighter fare" menu, but our server was adamant about his suggestions and talked me out of it every time! I was a little annoyed, but I quickly learned that his suggestions were right on every time! :thumbsup2 I had a few of the sugar-free desserts, but they weren't anything spectacular. After that, I had a dessert each day and ate pretty much what I wanted. I guess I was really careful at breakfast and ate oatmeal and fruit. And I didn't gorge myself like I would have before I started the whole weight loss journey, though. I used to be in the mindset, "well I already paid for this food, I need to get my money's worth." Now I try to remind myself that I am worth more than the food. But the food there was really good!

I think all the stairs helped. I didn't use the fitness room, but I did run on deck 4 and that was fun. We also walked our little legs off at Disneyworld! :faint:

I'm looking forward to reading your article! ::yes:: We get USA today, so let us know a few days ahead so we can catch it in print! :yay:
