May 30 2016, Disney Wonder Alaskan Cruise meet.

Hi, all-

Opinions, please:

Obsessive planner here!

Is it crazy to consider taking the Amtrak Cascades train from Seattle to Vancouver on the day of the cruise? I've read so many different theories posted by others on this, I'm panicking, since I already booked it! It would put us into Pacific Central Station at about 11:40 am, so it seems like there should be enough time to get to the ship, and a lot of people said they didn't have any problems, but others say not to try it since there are sometimes mudslides (YIKES!!!) that close the tracks. Help!

Does anyone have any experience with this? Or any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi! Sorry for the late reply. We're flying into Seattle and taking the Cascades train too; however, we're taking the train into Vancouver two days prior. I never arrive the day of the ship's departure. I've seen too many people miss "the boat" due to unforeseen travel situations. So, I never want to chance it.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who travel the day of without problems. I hope the same holds true for you; especially since you already booked it.

I'm looking forward to the train ride! I've taken the train from LA to San Diego. It was such a relaxing ride. :)

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately, I booked the flight through a site that doesn't allow any changes or cancellations, so unless I want to lose the money I paid, I'm stuck with it! I just might end up driving from Seattle to Vancouver at midnight!

Welcome along! We're pretty quiet here, so far, but hopefully, things will liven up as we get closer to our sailing date!

Just booked this cruise. It will be my 5th DCL.
Never done a fish extender and not sure if I'll join if there is one. It sounds fun, but the added stuff in my luggage might be too much.

Anyone staying at the Fairmont and doing the DCL transfers? I am trying to decide if I should just do that to keep it nice and easy or if I should do something less expensive so I'll have more $ for Alaska.

We are staying at the Fairmont Waterfront 2 nights before the cruise and the Fairmont at the airport 1 night after the cruise and using the DCL transfers. It is expensive, but I love the convenience.

Is anyone staying at the Pan Pacific at the cruise terminal? If you are, how are you getting to and from the airport? I currently have both that and the Fairmont airport booked while I decided which to keep.

If I keep Fairmont airport, I will use Disney transfers and not have to worry about anything. If I want to explore the city, I'll have to figure out my own way out and back.

If I keep Pan Pacific, I need to use my own transportation. They have a cruise ship package that includes breakfast, late check out and they will transport our luggage to the cruise ship. I'll have to get to airport on my own afterward, unless DCL has a one way transfers option.

We are going. 9 total. Me, Bonnie, hubby Don, stepson Ryan and wife Christine. 3 of 5 grand kids. Melly age 14, Olivia age 13, Justin...16. Friends Farhana and Kevin.
This will be my 10th cruise, Platinum, yeah! Dons second and everyone else has never cruised at all. First Alaska cruise. Hmmm...I need to change the picture of Don and I, quite a bit older now with silver hair. Lol!
Sorry, I don't do FEs. I'm not organized or creative enough.
Did anyone ever start a FB page?

We are flying into Seattle too so I've looked into this. A lot of people recommend Amtrak, but I'd be nervous to do it the day of the cruise because you'll still have to get from the Amtrak station in Vancouver to the port. We are taking quick shuttle from Seattle to Vancouver. You may want to search that. It's under either quick shuttle or quick coach....I can't remember. It only goes from Seattle to Vancouver and back again.

Technically, you have to be on the ship by like 4:30 so you should have plenty of time to get from the station to the port, even with a delay. We like to get on the ship as early as possible so we can start enjoying it. Is it not refundable? If not, I don't think you'll miss the boat or anything! :)

Thanks for the info about the other groups. I don't use FB, so I won't be over there.

I am not planning on doing the FE because I am going to try for a port upgrade and won't know my room #.
