May 21, 2012 - Mickey's Mooseketeers Take Alaska 2012!

Michelle,
Updates could also be reported at our meet and greet, right? Are we meeting at 3PM in Wavebands? I seem to remember something about that, but wanted to confirm.

Mary

I beleive Meet & Greet is at Promenade Lounge - 3PM - May 21, 2012
(from FE listing - page 1)

If someone gets an upgrade at the port or changes cabins - please notify me and mrp4352. I will have an updated list on my cabin door but if you notify both of us - should one of us get an upgrade we can be covered.

We just got a "maintenance" upgrade (I wonder what kind of issue is already known about that will take a month or more to fix?), so for FE, please change us to cabin 6524. Its a minor upgrade, 9B to 9A, and it really isn't one we want (we were really trying to be low in the ship and in the middle, and now we are higher up and much farther out towards the end), but I suppose we shouldn't complain about a free upgrade.

Of course, we got our documents in the mail today, with the old cabin #, so I was going on and on about how that meant there wouldn't be any upgrades, and then we get the change less than an hour later. Weird!

So I've been freaking out about this for a while now, but DH says I'm crazy and everything is fine. I hope you'll agree with him and not me, but I really want to know what you think. Here goes...

On our Juneau day, DH and I are going ziplining. I purchased the Alaska Toursavers 2 for 1 coupon book, so I booked it independently for 1/2 price. The excursion starts at 1:30 and is 3.25 hrs long - it was the only time that we could fit it into our schedule. That gets us back to the ship by 4:45. All aboard is 5:30. I think that this is cutting it pretty close. Unfortunately, the tickets had to be paid in full at booking and are non-refundable since they were purchased at a discount. Hubby says I worry too much and that it will be fine - he says that if it looks like it might be getting close, we will put tons of pressure on the tour company (the same one that DCL uses) to get us back on time no matter how they have to get us there. I told the tour company about our all aboard time when I booked it, and the woman on the phone said it wouldn't be a problem. Has anyone else ever done an independent excursion with only a 45 minute window to get back to the ship?

I called the Blue Horizon and the lady told me that there are taxi cabs waiting outside of the Amtrak station. She said it should be about $20 to $30 to go from the station to the hotel. We are planning on taking a taxi from the hotel to the port, too.
I am going to call our bank this morning and see if I can get about $100 in Canadian money for taxi cabs and meals in Vancouver.

I suspect we are on the same excursion as you are, leaving at 1:30 (meeting at 1:15) with a return time of 5pm (4:45pm) using the 2 for 1 coupon. Obviously we haven't done this one yet to comment, but we will help with the pressure to finish and get back on time, since we are worried about the same thing!

Yup - it's the same one - with Alaska Canopy, right? That's actually a huge relief to me - at least there's a group of us in the same boat (pun intended!). Thanks for letting me know!

Wow i've missed loads.

So these are the trips we've got booked:
Thursday 24th Yukon Suspension Bridge, City and White Pass Railway, 7:30am to 12:30pm
Friday 25th Mendenhall Glacier & Whale Quest 8am to 2pm

We've not got our cruise documents yet as we've just moved house so i'm worried they'll go missing.

I'd be interested in a cab share from Seattle port to our hotel which is the Hotel Monaco.

I have changed your cabin number on the FE list. If you are really unhappy with the new location - I would contact DCL (or have your TA do it) and see if they can move you closer to where you wanted to be. There are still several cabins available on the ship (or there were when I checked last week) and you may be able to be accomodated.

Good luck!

Yep! Alaska Canopy.

Our other (all non-Disney) excursions are:
Skagway - 11:45am, Trail Hike and Float with Skagway Float (Planning to do the free National Park stuff the rest of the day)
Juneau - 8:45am, Era Helicopter Glacier Flight (plus the 1:30 Alaska Canopy Zipline, Mt. Roberts if the weather is nice in between)
Ketchikan - Noon, Kayak with Ketchikan Kayak

Looks like we have three groups heading from Seattle into the same general downtown area, any thoughts on when would be good to set as a time to meet a cab or a shuttle? How do we know when exactly we will be getting off to arrange for a pickup?

We decided we like our new spot, so no need for complaining or moving. Just took a little bit of attitude adjustment, no reason to be upset about a "nicer" room, we will take whatever comes our way and just be excited to be going to Alaska!

No worries - I just know it can be frustrating to have your heart set on 1 cabin and a little twist comes in. :)

Hello all!

I JUST found this forum last night and CANNOT get enough. I am so pumped for the cruise now! This is our first cruise ever. My mom wanted to take our family on vacation. Her sister was already taking her family, so our family tagged along. We are so excited!

I know it is SUPER late notice, but if at all possible, our cabin and my cousins cabin would love to be added to the FE. I completely understand if that's not doable though.

Anyway, we would appreciate any and all info we can get from you about how to pack and what to do.

How do we sign up for the wine/beer tasting?

Where can I find the door dimensions?

How strong of magnets do we need to decorate the doors?

How does the tipping work? Are the suggested amounts to tip at the end per person in our party or per family?

Thanks in advance for all of your help and considering letting us participate in the FE. We can't wait to cruise with you all!

Shannon

Shannon,
That makes 4! We are from Albuquerque/Los Lunas, east of Albuquerque and Los Alamos. Where are you?

We are in Albuquerque! My mom, husband, son and I are all in the 505 right now. My brothers are flying from Texas (but originally from ABQ) and my aunt and cousins are from Denver.

Not from ABQ at all, but going to the Balloon festival this year for the first time. I'm sooooo looking forward to it. (almost as much as our Alaskan cruise. :)

You're going to love it! Shannon and I crew on a balloon every year.

Be careful though. It's the Balloon Fiesta (not Festival).

I can answer a couple of your questions. You book tastings onboard the ship, you cannot do it in advance, i'm hoping to do Martini tasting, I think its $15 a person. Tips are $12 pppd and as of tomorrow on the Wonder will be added automatically to your onboard account, although you can increase or decrease them by going to guest services.

Welcome!!:cool1:

Hello all!

How do we sign up for the wine/beer tasting?

You'll do that on board - I think it's guest services, but the navigator will tell you for sure.

Where can I find the door dimensions?

Sorry - I'm going to have to leave this one to the experts. (although you might check the Passporter Guide...)

How strong of magnets do we need to decorate the doors?

We usually buy the business card magnets and cut them in half for smaller items. However, on our cruise last November on the Magic, when the door to the verandah and the room door were open they weren't quite strong enough, so we'll probably use the whole magnet this time.

How does the tipping work? Are the suggested amounts to tip at the end per person in our party or per family?

Chilly got to the tipping question before I did. The only thing I would add is that I believe it's recommended at approximately $85/pp.

On the FE, we have closed the group - but if you'd like, I can add you to the list and note that you joined our board after the deadline. There are some who had to place orders and start working on their gifts already that won't be able to play the FE game with you. But there may be some who can still add you to their count (I know that Mom and I can). If you are comfortable with that arrangement, then please PM your e-mail address to me and I can add you to the list - and send a copy of it to you.

Just think - the cruise is just a month away!!
